This is a bit of a shock. We're expecting twins. (DH has twin aunts but it never crossed our minds) This is a friendly warning that I'll be pestering you for name opinions soon!

😊congratulations!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 15/01/2019 22:48

Ooh fab. It usually comes from the dads side. Well so I believe. Dbil is an identical twin. However there twins have not carried over into the next generation, yet anywayGrin
Plus as far as they know there have been no twins before, either.
Are your DHs aunts identical or fraternal

Wolfiefan · 15/01/2019 22:49

Yay!! Congratulations.

ZogTheOrangeDragon · 15/01/2019 22:54

Congratulations!

It usually comes from the dads side.

Identical twins are completely random and non indentical twins can sometimes be genetic on the maternal side (because that’s where the ovaries are).

PenCreed · 15/01/2019 22:57

It doesn't come from the dad's side if they're non-identical! It's because you have two eggs at the same time. Well done you!

My parents kept both sides of the family happy by giving their twins a different family name each as a middle name, so that's something to bear in mind Smile

GreenDinosaur · 15/01/2019 23:19

Congratulations, lucky you! BiscuitThanks

GreenDinosaur · 15/01/2019 23:20

Oops, sorry! No idea where the biscuit came from! Blush
That was a genuine congratulations, honest!!

mathanxiety · 16/01/2019 05:54

(It couldn't possibly come from the dad's side)

Congrats to Picknickers!

Seline · 16/01/2019 05:58

Twins usually comes from the mothers side. The question is whether a father can pass the hyper ovulation gene to his daughters. I'd say yes based on experience - my grandfather is a twin, one of his daughters was pregnant with twins and I have twins. His twin sister had two singletons who each had twins. His singleton brother had twins. The twin gene is strong in my family!

Congrats OP Smile

Cosmoa · 16/01/2019 10:58

My Mum and siblings are twins... There has been 9 consecutive generations of twins in our family! Fingers crossed I have them 😍

Congratulations OP!

Huffleypuff · 16/01/2019 11:00

Also agree on fathers passing the gene to his daughters as me and my half sister both have twins, as did my father’s mother.

twins haven’t anything to do with your husbands family though.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 16/01/2019 11:02

Bear and Bear Congratulations!

Cosmoa · 16/01/2019 11:10

@picknickers I'm sure I remember you looking for names last summer! I had my daughter around then and remember seeing your name pop up a bunch. So jealous you're having twins now lol

Picknickers · 16/01/2019 16:46

Thanks everyone...Still trying to get my head round it! OH's aunts are not identical. No twins my side so I'm still blaming him even if it's not his fault Grin Yes Cosmoa I have a 10 month old dd. Took us a long time to conceive last time so we thought we'd start early. Oops!

5lnaBed · 17/01/2019 10:59

You’re doing well to have so much enthusiasm after 4m! It’s only since mine have been about 12m that I’ve seen the advantages over my Singleton baby lol

Picknickers · 17/01/2019 23:53

So apprehensive! 3 under 2 years. Eek.
