I’m posting this on behalf of my sister.

She’d like to honour family names below but no idea what to go for!
For boys: our Dad is Michael and our Gdad was Raymond.
Ray/Raymond & Michael seem a bit old fashioned as a first name so maybe better as 2 middle names (Michael Ray or Michael Raymond).
Her surname is Vickerman.
First names she’s considering:
Callum, Joshua, Alexander, Kai. But her DH isn’t sold on these!
Any other suggestions? Need to be careful of initials, her DH wanted Ben but initials are for a nasty medical condition!

Yes Michael is old fashioned but Its also classic. Its one of those names that fits into any age or class.
Michael Raymond is fab.

Plus it's one of those names that has never dated

Divgirl2 · 13/01/2019 17:09

Hate the name Kai, only suited to staffies IMO. Might just sound horrible in my accent though.

Actually not hugely keen on any of the list to be honest. Michael is a top 20 name though, so definitely not old fashioned. Has that been veto'd as a first name? And I wouldn't say BV are the worst initials, by the time the kids have heard of BV (bacterial vaginosis?) they'll be adults and not caring what their pal's initials are.

I quite like Ray.

Michael is a classic, shortens nicely to Micky or Mikey for a toddler/child/teen with the fall back of michael/mike/mick as he’s growing up.

Also like Michaela for a girl.

NicoleNoPants · 13/01/2019 17:13

I quite like Ray actually and it’s not normally my sort of thing! Alexander is timeless.

Mulberryandthyme · 13/01/2019 18:49

Michael is a fantastic name.

Inktank · 13/01/2019 19:22

I really like Raymond, with Ray for short, and think it's on the way back.

Michael is OK, a solid traditional name. I'm not so keen on Mike, but quite like Mick as a nickname.

I like Joshua and Alexander of the others.

Peter Michael Raymond
James Michael Ray
Oliver Michael Raymond
Leo Michael Ray
Nicholas Ray Michael
Aaron Michael Ray
Thomas Ray Michael
Eli Michael Ray
Jacob Michael Ray
Ethan Michael Ray

Micha Ragin. Micha is derived from Michael while Raymond is composed from the names Ragin meaning advisor and Mund meaning protector and I think Ragin is the nicest.
