Mee-la or my-la?

I always thought Mila Kunis pronounced it Miller, but must have been wrong. That's good because Meela sounds really pretty; Miller just reminds me of Windy Miller! Smile

SloeBerri · 13/01/2019 14:23

I’m also Ukrainian, it’s a quicker ‘me’ not ‘mee’ in Ukraine

AlliKaneErikson · 13/01/2019 14:47

I would have said it was my-la, just because Lila is usually pronounced Ly-la.

E20mom · 13/01/2019 15:19

I've known both,

Weird your friend expects you to be psychic and know which pronunciation she's gone for!

Highlowpo · 13/01/2019 15:47

Mee-la

CloserIAm2Fine · 13/01/2019 15:53

Mee-la

I know 2 and both pronounce it like this

Wenttoseainasieve · 13/01/2019 15:57

It's short for Milena. Pronounced me-la.

WildFlower2019 · 13/01/2019 16:06

Me-la

2isabella2 · 13/01/2019 16:09

I'd have pronounced in My-la before reading this post.

3out · 13/01/2019 16:18

Me lah

Mill-a and miller would be pronounced very differently in Scotland.

I’ve never met anyone who says it my-lah.

I always get stung with Mia. I somehow always manage to opt for the incorrect pronunciation every time! My-ah/me-ah.

AnonymousAgain · 13/01/2019 16:19

Mee-la

Otherwise I'd expect to see Myla.

Both lovely names, though.

BramRang · 13/01/2019 16:31

To the poster re Laura: both LOR-ah and Lou-rah (the ou in ouch) are correct, the latter in Portugal and Italy I believe.

Meela, like Mila Kunis.

Soubriquet · 13/01/2019 16:36

Mee-la

Your friend is going to have to get over herself and get used to correcting people

Sophronia · 13/01/2019 18:05

Meela, but I do prefer the My-la pronunciation.

springtimeyet · 13/01/2019 18:07

Mee la
Your friend might want to change the dc's birth certificate if she really cares about this.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 13/01/2019 19:49

I'd have said Myla. In your defence though.
It seems like I'm in the minority.
She may want to think of something else unless she wants to go through her dds childhood throwing her rattle of her pram everytime her name is mispronounced, which will happen a a lot.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 13/01/2019 19:51

Or change the spelling to Myla to match the pronunciation

Milasmummy · 13/01/2019 20:20

Meela.
But as a mother of mila it grates me all the mispronounciation she gets. Mil-la , my-la. Even though it’s in the top 100 names, it’s really not that well known of a name in the general public (especially older generation). It’s not a well known English name. But if you love it, use it!

appless · 13/01/2019 22:17

Me-luh, as in Kunis.

CosmicComet · 13/01/2019 22:19

Meela. Like Mila Kunis.

CheerfulYank · 14/01/2019 08:00

Meeela, like Mila Kunis.

tammytoby · 14/01/2019 08:37

Meela

namechangechanger · 14/01/2019 09:15

Meela
