Joseph and Jacob?

We have a DS called Joseph and have found out that we are expecting another boy. The only name we can both agree on is Jacob, but we’re worried that “Joseph and Jacob” might not work/it might be better to give them each different initials.

Other names on our individual shortlists include Henry, Alexander, Oliver, Frederick and Benjamin. Such a lovely dilemma to have but a tough one as we don’t want to get it wrong, please help!

I think they’re fine together but I prefer the other names on your list to Jacob! Particularly like Henry and Frederick. Congrats!

I think they are both lovely names.

I would make sure they have different middle initials though as it will help with past when they are older.

I’d also be inclined to choose names with different initials. It also seems like a particularly Biblical combo.

I especially like Alexander with Joseph, and also like Frederick and Henry. Benjamin is wonderful but I suspect you’d end up with a Ben on a day to day basis, so depends how you feel about that.

Congratulations on your second boy!

My friend has a Joseph and a Jacob. I think they're fine together.

They’re ok together, but a different name would be better.

I like every one of the names you've mentioned. I understand your dilemma about two having the same first initial but why worry if you like the name. Presumably they will have different middle initials. In the past it wasn't uncommon for kids to be named after a parent and it worked well enough then.

Well done by the way.

Ah, thanks so much for your feedback and kind words. My favourite name is Henry but we’re wary as I’ve seen comments on here saying “not another Henry” etc (there were five other children in my year at school with my first name).
