Which name do you prefer? And why?
Was set on Matilda but recently Theodora has come to me and can't seem to stop thinking of it.
Thanks.

i prefer matilda. theodora personally reminds me of theodore from alvin and the chipmunks (sorry! it is a lovely name!)

Agree with PP on both counts. I think Thea is a nice alternative?

Choosinganame · 10/01/2019 18:57

I prefer Theadora, it's a bit more unusual and I like the nicknames Thea, Dora and Dory.

SoftBlocks · 10/01/2019 18:58

Theodora.

Tilly is terrible, Theo/Thea is lovely. Not sure about Teddy for a girl.. I wouldn't.

I'd go for Theodora...

Theodora

Matilda is awesome

I loved Theodora but DH wouldn't have it, we compromised on Thea though. Funnily enough, if she was a boy she would have been Theodore which he was fine with Hmm

Matilda was also in my top 10 so we have very similar tastes.

Both lovely names but Theodora tips it for me, not as common IMO.

Matilda

Theodora shortened to Teddy is nice but there are so many Teddys and Theo boys around.
Matilda is very popular too.
I would say both are too popular.
I really like Dorothy nn Dot or Dora

Gumball54 · 10/01/2019 20:59

Matilda definitely.

Our 13 wk old DD is called Theodora and gets Teddy or Ted on a daily basis.

We think it’s cute on a girl and everybody who has asked her name has been really positive about it. Most people like it because it’s something different, and others because Teddy on a girl is cute. It’s actually originated in the 1950s with various actresses going by the short form Teddie.

We also liked Theodore if we had had a boy. We wanted the long form on her birth cert so she has options when she is older and going to work, although I must admit we asked MIL not to shorten it to Dora, reasoning being we don’t like it and if we wanted to call her Dora we would have done so. I fell in love with Theodora the minute I heard it.

Matilda.

Just not a fan of Theodora, though I quite like just Thea.

Cazastrophe · 11/01/2019 09:52

Theodora is a bit masculine as it tends to get shortened to Teddy like Robbie Williams’ daughter.
I’d go with Matilda.
