Can Lucas ever be spelt Lucus?

I cringe every time I see my friend (more acquaintance) post on Facebook about him. She also has his named tattooed on her wrist. I wouldn't ever say a word and it suddenly struck me today ... IS there a spelling of Lucas that I wasn't aware of? I think I know of the name Lukas )not sure re country of origin) but could it be the same for Lucus? Or has she, as I suspect, just spelt it wrong?

Never seen it spelt like that before but people do make up crazy spellings and batshit names for their dc, just to be "different"!

That spelling just makes his parents look like they don't know how to spell. It also reminds me of mucus. Blegh!

Yes, just google Lucus and you'll find out about it's origin. It's an old Latin derived name! I like it, I also like Rufus and Marcus.

Well there's no law against it. However if she wanted to be different without it looking dreadful written down. Lukas might have been a better idea.
