Younes or Ata?

So hubby has requested an islamic or at the very least an islamically permissable name for this baby boy.

Family names that are already taken include:

Rayan
Adam
Daniyal
Sami
Zakariyya
Hassan
Idris
Mika
Yaqoub
Haris
Benyamin
Noah
Zain
Ziyan

Basically all of the nice ones. The two names that stood out to me when looking are:

Ata and Younes

What do people think? Any other name suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Prefer Ata to Younes.

How about:
Yusuf/yousef
Zaid
Ayaan
Saif
Laith
Musa
Dawud
Ibrahim
Rashid

I can probably think of some more.
Btw any name in any language is islamically acceptable as long as it has a good meaning, so that is a pretty wide net he has given you. Sounds like he wants something Arabic/Persian though.

I'm not familiar with Ata and Younes. How are they pronounced?

Sophronia · 09/01/2019 23:00

How about Elyas?

Waterlemon · 09/01/2019 23:06

I was going to say Elias/Elyas

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 09/01/2019 23:09

I like Ata, Younes is more popular (in my world anyway). Isa is one I would use if I had another boy and I like Emir too.

tierraJ · 09/01/2019 23:46

I like Kamran & Adnan

chocolatefoxes · 10/01/2019 00:35

Anis?

MissLanesAmericanCousin · 10/01/2019 02:54

Younes is very handsome! I like that one best. Smile

Good luck with your name quest and congratulations! Flowers

I am unfamiliar with these names, but is Younes pronounced yoo-nis? So the as the western female name Eunice? In which case I would avoid it and go for Ata.

Pemba · 10/01/2019 04:30

*the same as Eunice

Justagirlwholovesaboy · 10/01/2019 04:43

Do you have other you like?

tammytoby · 10/01/2019 08:27

Younes is quite popular. Never met an Ata though. Is it pronounced Ah-ta?

Blondieblond · 10/01/2019 09:40

Ata pronounced ar-tah

And younes pronounced you-nez as opposed to eunice.

Elyas is lovely but we have a family friend called Ilyas. Musa, Isa are nice too thanks i will put them to DH. Thanks for the suggestions!

DH has already said no to Kamran.

I agree starface he has given me what looks like a wide net but actually in reality will only go for certain names!

They both sound good to me. I think I slightly prefer Younes.

Xavier
Yushua
Jamal
Kasim
Arham
Saeed
Tariq
Qadir
Muneer
Kiyan
Nadeem
Saleem
Kashif

RiverTam · 10/01/2019 13:15

2 little Muslim boys I know are Talha and Arif, which both seem nice and easily pronounceable names.

SherlocksDeerstalker · 10/01/2019 13:17

Laith and Quais are my favourites.

bluechameleon · 10/01/2019 13:22

I like:
Sayf
Tambir
Tahmid
Sahil

Of your options I prefer Ata but they are both nice.

tierraJ · 10/01/2019 15:41

I know a Syrian guy called Amar, I like that name too, pronounced Amm-ar.

tierraJ · 10/01/2019 15:46

Also know:

Khalid
Sohail
Asif
Wahab
Zahid
Saeed
Hossein
Abdul
Jamal
Yasin
Nayaf

tierraJ · 10/01/2019 15:48

Omar
Haitham

Nnnnnineteen · 10/01/2019 16:23

Yunus/Younis is more popular than Athar locally (the spellings I come across most). I prefer Athar, but both are ok.

Starface · 10/01/2019 18:14

Lol. Yes it's not the acceptability islamically but also the cultural identity they really want. Some nice other suggestions. I also like Tamir (From dates, but implication is having lots of them and therefore wealthy/blessed). Also, Hisham is nice too. Both less common. I like Imran, Sulaiman too.

Starface · 10/01/2019 18:16

Oh I also meant to say I have seen Ata spelled Atha, but often mispronounced. I actually also like Osama as a name, and I personally think associations with that are reducing now.

Blondieblond · 10/01/2019 18:21

Thanks ladies. I love Omar, Jamal and Amar but have all on my side of the family. The trouble with big families!

A friends son is called Sohail. And some of the other names are taken also by family friends.

Also Dh's and current Ds's names have both now been suggested which means we're on the right track!

I like Yasin, Kiyan and Quais. Will add them to my list.

Ooh, I really like Younes. Sounds very Lebanese.
