Baby girl shortlist... the final three

TheCag · 09/01/2019 14:08

Our baby girl has arrived and we’ve finally narrowed our shortlist to three names:
Penelope
Beatrix
Catherine

Dh loves Penelope but our surname also starts with P and I feel it’s got potential for bullying/teasing issues in the future so I’m hesitant about the name.

Our other dc have slightly less popular/alternative names so Beatrix fits with them. We love Catherine too though and I suppose it’s our ‘safe’ option.

Help me choose!!

All really lovely names. If only due to popularity locally, I'd say Catherine, but assuming you don't live near me, no problem!

DramaAlpaca · 09/01/2019 20:23

Catherine by a mile.

maddiemookins16mum · 09/01/2019 20:44

Catherine or Penelope.

maddiemookins16mum · 09/01/2019 20:45

Oh and if it’s Paterson, then Penelope goes really well with it.

happytobemrsg · 09/01/2019 20:46

Love love love Beatrix with Bea as nn

itssquidstella · 09/01/2019 20:47

Beatrix or Catherine, not Penelope.

schnubbins · 09/01/2019 20:53

Catherine .Love it!

Nocturnalpearl · 10/01/2019 00:36

I have a Beatrice (bea) and get so many lovely comments on her name. Funnily enough Penelope Catherine is on our list for our next baby. We have similar taste! Congratulations!

moredoll · 10/01/2019 00:40

Catherine or Beatrix. Pobably prefer Catherine as I love Kate for a nn.

MarthasGinYard · 10/01/2019 00:41

Beatrix

Love Trix as a no

BF888 · 10/01/2019 00:52

How about Beatrix and Penelope as a middle name?

Peachesandcream30 · 10/01/2019 06:25

Love Beatrix!!

WrapAndRoll · 10/01/2019 08:01

Beatrix.

Penelope P. would remind me of Penelope Pitstop.

RedDwarves · 10/01/2019 08:53

Catherine. Beautiful name, and statistically probably the least popular of all three names.

Love Kate too.

Astronica · 10/01/2019 09:25

I do often like the sound of alliterative names on other people, but I grew up with one and I really disliked the fact that my alliterative name drew attention towards me. I would have preferred to blend into the crowd, and was relieved when I changed my name on marriage. Also sounds like your surname is 3 syllables which makes a very long combo with Penelope. I do love Penelope, but wouldn't use it in your situation.

I also love both Beatrix and Catherine. For me it would depend on the nns you might use for each. I love Kit and Kitty, and Kate, for Catherine and like all of Beatrix' nns. Not much help here because I could go either way with these 2. Which one makes you glow on the inside when you think about it as your daughter's name? Possibly leaning slightly towards Beatrix.

rosealltheway · 10/01/2019 11:10

Catherine is so plain/run of the mill/ordinary. Other 2 are very and much more unusual but also pretty.

Disfordarkchocolate · 10/01/2019 11:15

All good names but I like Penelope the best, alliterative names make me smile ( I have one and they are happy names).

BellMcEnd · 10/01/2019 11:18

Penelope by miles. Love it and also love alliterative names

Mountainsoutofmolehills · 10/01/2019 11:19

penelope will spend ehr life being called pen or penny. Catherine will be Cat or Kate and Beatrix will be Bea. I'd go for Beatrix, it's classy and simple. Penelope is a frivilous name that ONLY Penelope Cruz has helped, before it was that pitstop character. Penny isn't a good name to have. Sorry if you are reading this and your kid is called Penny.

Lemons1 · 10/01/2019 11:30

Penelope! I love it, it's definitely my favourite.

littlemeitslyn · 10/01/2019 12:25

Pandia 😂🙄

uhtredsonofuhtred · 10/01/2019 12:39

@Mountainsoutofmolehills I have to disagree with you saying that the names will be shortened, because that's not actually true.
Any name you give your child doesn't have to be shortened if you don't want it to be,one of my children in particular has a name that I've heard being shortened all the time but we never have and In my opinion people won't do it unless they've heard their parents do it and if they do I'd correct them and say "no we don't shorten it" that normally does the trick.

Op I think Catherine is the nicest on your list

SallyWD · 10/01/2019 15:01

In order I like Catherine, Penelope and then Beatrix

Ipanema01 · 10/01/2019 15:18

Beatrix by a mile. Love Bee for short too!
