Calling DD May when she'll be born in that month

I really love the name May but probably spelled Mae - this is also the month she's going to be born - every year when it comes to her Birthday will it suddenly dawn on new people in her life "0oooh you're called Mae because you're born in May"....I just don't know if it's stupid or cute. What do you think? Oh and we're not planning on calling her it BECAUSE she'll be born then, we both just really like it.

If you are going to call her May or Mae, I think it makes more sense to do it if she was born in that month, than not.

tammytoby · 09/01/2019 13:33

I prefer the spelling May.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 09/01/2019 13:33

i think its more logical. I have a Summer born in August, I wouldnt have called her that had she been born in December.

Santaisfastasleepatlast · 09/01/2019 13:33

My exmil was a June baby called June.
Acceptable.
Unlike a dc I know born March but called Summer.
What about Esmae?

MumUnderTheMoon · 09/01/2019 13:59

People will probably comment on it every year and it isn't cute but do you really care? My birthday is the Fourth of July and people often say "oh you must be really independent" it's not that big a deal.

Aprilshowerswontbelong · 09/01/2019 14:20

Mum - we share a birthday!!

RuthW · 09/01/2019 16:29

My 22 year old dd is called first name, secondname, May, surname because she was due mid may. We thought if she was early or late she would still be born in May. No chance! She was over three weeks early and born in April!

She had always loved the story though and tells everyone.

Go for it.

Bagadverts · 09/01/2019 16:38

It makes more sense to me then people called May but born in October.

ZebraKid71 · 09/01/2019 17:31

I only like month names if they are not born in that month. I know two April's and neither were born in April. Its just too twee for me if they are.

iloveredwine · 09/01/2019 17:35

I know an April that was born in April. I never made the connection till about 10 years later😆

WildCherryBlossom · 09/01/2019 17:37

I'm the opposite to Zebra. I think it makes more sense to name someone after their birth month than not. I have a friend called April who wasn't born in April and i find it a little odd. I would also expect Holly to be born around Christmas although I know lots who weren't.

I only know one May (actually spells it Maye) and I don't know when she was born but I will ask.

Embracethechaos · 09/01/2019 17:39

If she's born in may...

VictoriaBun · 09/01/2019 17:40

I know an April, May and a June. Also aren't all Holly 's born in December ?

RomanyRoots · 09/01/2019 17:41

Better than calling her April or June, surely.

Holly born in December, and we have the season names Summer, Autumn, etc.

RomanyRoots · 09/01/2019 17:42

Ha ha, cross post there.

FiveNightsAtMummys · 09/01/2019 17:43

My grandma was May. Born in May day. I think it's lovely.

Gumball54 · 10/01/2019 11:12

Yeah, I like it!

planespotting · 10/01/2019 11:13

Better born in May than conceived in May, that is a bit uncomfortable

planespotting · 10/01/2019 11:13

Grandma May sounds lovely actually

Tinty · 10/01/2019 11:46

My 22 year old dd is called first name, secondname, May, surname because she was due mid may. We thought if she was early or late she would still be born in May. No chance! She was over three weeks early and born in April!

Why didn't you call her first name, secondname, April? Grin

May or Mae born in May is great. I dislike month names if the DC isn't born in that Month. I know a Holly born in June! Smile

ImNotWhoYouThinkIam · 10/01/2019 11:50

My cousin is called Hollie. Born in May.
My step-mum is called June. Born in June.
My Nannies middle name is May. Her birthday is in August.
I have another cousin called Noelle. Her birthday is September... you can work out when she was conceived Wink

slappinthebass · 10/01/2019 11:52

I'd find it more odd if she wasn't born in May.

UrsulaPandress · 10/01/2019 11:56

I had an Auntie May born in May.

A cousin Julie born in July.

Dd would possibly have been called October had I known she would be late from a September due date.

MikeUniformMike · 10/01/2019 11:57

In the old days, May was used as a name for Mary.
Not keen on the spelling Mae.
Like many of the names mentioned upthread, she'll get lots of comments about when she was born.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 10/01/2019 13:16

I think its perfect. I'm one of those who believes your name should match your birth date, well month or season. I think it'd be a tad daft to call a baby born on Christmas Day Summer for example.
