Thoughts on the name Adele? Also how would you pronounce it?

Love it! I'd say it 'adel' I guess with emphasis on second syllable.

WrapAndRoll · 09/01/2019 01:19

I quite like it and would pronounce it uh-DELL. Adela is also nice.

Astronica · 09/01/2019 05:28

It's a nice, streamlined and not over-used name. Pronounced uh-DELL.

jessstan2 · 09/01/2019 05:30

Very nice name. Just pronounce it as it is spelled - a-Dell.
Not too common either. Addy for short, or Dell, Della.

Til89 · 09/01/2019 09:34

I like it. Pronounced Add-elle.

Disfordarkchocolate · 09/01/2019 09:36

I like it, name of a childhood friend. I would say A-dell, she did.

MikeUniformMike · 09/01/2019 10:48

Ad-ELLE. I don't like it or Adeline.

Phebes · 09/01/2019 14:24

I like it, very chic. I say ah-DELL

tammytoby · 09/01/2019 14:31

I'd pronounce Adele as Adèle.

In English Adelaide might be a better option?

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 09/01/2019 15:04

Awful and nn Addy is even worse.

Florries · 09/01/2019 21:42

Thanks for replies. In my accent I seem to say add elle (with a 'wuh' sound at the end) like how Mick says 'L' ,Linda's nickname, in EastEnders.

I like it, but think it's unusable with the singer Adele being as famous as she is. It's a bit like Rihanna, Mariah or Miley. You're only ever going to think of one person, and you will forever be asked if you named your child after the singer.

Uh-Dell for pronunciation.
