Girls names suggestions

I'm due very soon with our first daughter and OH and I still can't decide on any names! I really wanted to go down an Arabic name route but at this point I don't care so much and would love something just a little different and more original sounding than the norm. Any suggestions? X

I love Zara, Amira, Imani & Amara but my all time favourite for a girl is Salma

I was reading about cruise ships the other day and one was called Azura, which is such a pretty name. Not sure if it can be used as a girls name?

Pearlgrey1 · 08/01/2019 11:52

Another vote for Amara

Coming on to say Amara. It's beautiful.

wingingitmills · 09/01/2019 01:05

It's so hard to choose the right name for a person you haven't met or seen. I'd at least like to have some choice but I can't seem to love any of the ones I've found. I want a name she'd love but also one that's a rare find which is difficult to do these days.

Nawal or Yara?

Why an Arabic name?
I wouldn't use a name from outside your culture, unless it is quite mainstream (e.g. Zara), or there is some connection, in which case I would use if as a middle name.
Also Arabic names tend to have different spellings

wingingitmills · 09/01/2019 14:47

I should have probably mentioned that I'm middle Eastern and that's why I wanted to go down a more Arabic route for name.

MikeUniformMike · 09/01/2019 14:58

Ah right, that makes a difference.
Pick whichever you like, I just think that names from a different culture can be a bit naff. Middle eastern name for someone who is part-ME makes sense.
Do you like short names, long names, religious names, nature names...?

wingingitmills · 09/01/2019 18:00

I really don't mind. I still can't find one that seems to fit at all. It seems so silly but finding a name has been one of the hardest things I've had to choose. It's worse when I speak to other mums/people in general and they can't believe I still don't have a name I particularly like yet being that I'm due in a few weeks. 😫

What names do you like? If it was your sister having a baby what names would you suggest?
I don't know which names are currently popular but some Arabic names I like are Halla, Nuur, Yasmin, Tahira and Raheela, but they might be middle aged or dated. I know a Zamzam, which is cute.
Sheherazade is nice - Shari for short.

MikeUniformMike · 09/01/2019 18:13

Do a search and try them out with your surname.
Think of what sorts of english names you like and why you like them.
What names are popular but you don't like?
