Its driving me mad that we can't agree on a name, my favourites are:
Otillie (oh says no)
Matilda (oh says no)
Violet (hate the thought of it being shortened to Vi)
Mabel (sounds odd with our surname)

His favourites are:
Harper
Imogen

Any suggestions gratefully received!

Otillie - I'm honestly not sure how I would pronounce this, it's honestly a little intimidating looking where you have to think twice before saying it outloud.
Matilda - Cute, but don't love it
Violet - I like it and I actually love the nn V. You could also use lettie as a nn.
Mabel - Cute, pretty, simple.

His favourites are:
Harper - Dislike, just sounds harsh.
Imogen - I find this hard to pronounce, so no for me.

Love all of them except wouldn't use Harper as it's a bit "of the moment" and worried it would date badly.

How about Genevieve, Beatrice, Eliza, Olive, Scarlett, Margot, Martha, Flora, Eleanore, Lorelei, Juliet, Jemima, Tabitha?

Also, Violet can be shortened to Lettie which I think is lovely.

Imogen is great and my clear favourite from your lists. I would cross off Harper and cross off Mabel if it doesn't work with surname. I like both Violet (call her Letty if you need a nn) and Matilda.

I'd cross ottilie and matilda off straight away if you oh doesn't like them!

Violet is quite a short name anyway so may not get shortened, the two I know are always Violet.

I like imogen from your ohs list - how do you feel about it?

Harper is really not to my taste and agree with pp that it will date.

MyHeartIsBrokeButIHaveSomeGlue · 08/01/2019 08:37

I have a Violet and no one has ever called her Vi. Her nickname is simply V. Or Little Pickle 😉

Love Violet and Imogen. Violet can be Lettie.

I really wouldn’t name a kid after VB’s dd. I’d steer clear of names with any celeb association. Plus it will date horribly.

LemonBeachTowels · 08/01/2019 10:36

There are so many little girls called Matilda these days and Ottile. I’m sure in years to come they will be the “Leanne” of today.

Pearlgrey1 · 08/01/2019 11:50

I love Imogen and Mabel
Harper's becoming more popular so depends if that bothers you or not

You have all been so helpful, we have lots of names to discuss now, pleased to hear Violet isn't automatically shortened to Vi, I wouldn't feel the need to shorten it myself but sometimes people take it upon themselves to!
I do like Imogen, I'm just not sure its "the one".
I like Margot, Eliza and a few others you have suggested, will see what the OH says! Thank you.
