My sister is 8wks preg. with twins and has suggested some names that she’d like opinions on. Can you help?
Boys:
Reed Alexander

Raymond Michael
The boys names are family names : Grandfathers Raymond & Michael and Reed our maiden name.

Girls:
Maisie Rae (Ray after our grandfather) &
Lorelei Betty (Betty after our grandmother)

Thoughts? Smile

I like the boys names, especially Reed Alexander, but I’m not keen on the girls names.

lauraannk · 28/12/2018 17:57

Love Reed Alexander and Maisie Rae

Creatureofthenight · 28/12/2018 17:58

If she decides on grandfathers’ names I’d definitely go for Michael Raymond not Raymond Michael.

MikeUniformMike · 28/12/2018 18:00

I'd use Reed as a mn.
I like Raymond Michael

Really like Reed Alexander for a boy.
Love Rae as a middle name for girl, but not keen on Maisie or lorelei.

Sienna Rae
Darcy Rae
Georgia Rae
Carly Rae

I don't like Raymond but I'm old enough to remember it the first time around when it was a dad's name. Think along the lines of Gary or Craig now.
I think Reed is too surnamey and he will have to repeat himself a lot with that name.
I'm not a fan of Maisie or Rae.
Out of the two is go with Lorelei but think Elizabeth is much nicer than Betty.

RavenWings · 29/12/2018 15:48

Not liking Maisie Rae at all. Maisie is so weak and spineless, and Rae is generic. I do appreciate that it's after your granddad but I don't like it. I would consider using something like Reina/Raina. It has the Ray sound but the name has more personality to it.

Lorelei Betty and the boys names are nice. I agree that Lorelei Elizabeth sounds nicer than Lorelei Betty, but I think it isn't a huge issue.

moredoll · 29/12/2018 15:52

Mostly I like them better the other way round so

Alexander Reed
Michael Raymond

Betty Lorelei
Maisie Ray

I think it is lovely to use family names as inspiration, I did it myself. It would be lovely to use her maiden name as her sons first name to honour that part of his family. I'm not sure about Rae as a middle name for a girl though as it is becoming quite commonly done and might take some of the shine of it? Ramona is the female version of Raymond and I think it's lovely. Also playing off your family names: Raya, Micha, Micky, Michaela, Mika, Eliza, Bess, Beth. Also Reed means Red so you could call a girl Scarlet or a boy Redd.

daisypond · 29/12/2018 19:18

I prefer the boys' names the other way -
Alexander Reed or Michael Raymond. I could maybe come round to Reed as a first name, though.
For girls, I don't like either Maisie or Rae. Maisie is weak - and it's a short form for the longer and stronger name Margaret. Rae is just generic.
Lorelei is too frilly for my taste, but this is my preferred name out of your options. Betty is OK, but it'd be much better if it was Elizabeth.
Raymonda is a girl's name - there's a famous ballet named after the main character. This is loads better than Rae in my opinion.

bridgetreilly · 29/12/2018 19:42

I think if she wants to use grandfathers' names, it seems nicer? fairer? to give them one each, rather than both for one.

My choices would be
Reed Michael
Alexander Raymond

Maisie Rae and Lorelei Betty are both quite cutesy, which isn't my taste, but it's fine if it's hers. I don't love the connotations of Lorelei either, but admit I am biased because I know an awful Lorelei.

mistermagpie · 29/12/2018 20:06

I really don't like either of your girls names, they are just a bit frilly and blah. I like the boys ones though and actually think Raymond might be due a comeback, like some of the other older names you hear now. I know little Dennis's and Vincent's and it's a bit like that. Reed... hmm. It's a bit, 'not a name' isn't it? I can't imagine meeting an adult called Reed, but it's not awful.

mistermagpie · 29/12/2018 20:07

Oh, and Ramona is a great girls name, which is a bit 'Raymond'

Cazastrophe · 30/12/2018 03:15

Thanks all, my sister is now considering Melody for a girl but the search continues!
