Can Herbie be a nn for any name other than Herbert?

My nephew is Herbie. Not short for anything, he’s just Herbie. He’s 8 now.

I only know of Herbert. I know of a little Herbie who is just Herbie though. I think it's sweet.

Sweet is only a good thing for under-5s though. The older a child gets the worse 'sweet' becomes.

I have a Herbie, not Herbert, he's a 6ft 3 rugby playing 15 yo!!
We all still love his name and so does he. It's not cutesy at all.
And yes it is a car!!
