Glen/Glenn - due a comeback?

My DH really likes Glen but I have mixed feelings on it.
Pros:
Nature/landscape theme (relates strongly to my profession)
Scottish origin (we are and both like the idea of a Scottish name)
Recognisable/easy to pronounce/spell but not particularly common

Cons:
Old man name
Has really bottomed out in terms of popularity. Read it mentioned as a potential dying out name in the same vein as Gary

What do you think? Is it just extremely out-dated or due a revival in the next generation of old-fashioned names that come back in (I think it peaked in 50s-60s)?

Which spelling do you prefer? One N or two?

Miles better than Gary. I think good name, certainly no major drawbacks (except I did think Glenn was a girls name but unsure).

tammytoby · 21/12/2018 09:57

I like Glen. Strong, interesting and not common!

knittedjest · 21/12/2018 09:57

I've actually never really considered it before but I actually really like Glenn. I think it's a pretty solid name. Cute on a little kid, strong on an adult. Easy to spell and pronounce. Solid name. Hope it comes back.

RedDwarves · 21/12/2018 09:58

I don't dislike it, but I don't particularly like it either. My dad was going to be a Glen (he was a David instead), so it seems very much of his era - he would've been 60 this year.

Nothing wrong with it, though. One N - Glen.

ZebraKid71 · 21/12/2018 10:35

I would never have even thought of it to be honest, but now you have mentioned it I actually really like it.

WrapAndRoll · 21/12/2018 10:44

TBH I have never liked it, but looks like I'm in a minority.

knittedjest · 21/12/2018 10:50

By the way have no preference for one N or two. Just typically spell it with two thanks to Glenn from the walking dead. Who is one badass character.

Firstbornunicorn · 21/12/2018 10:50

I can only think of it as a sheep dog's name!

RaininSummer · 21/12/2018 10:55

I like Glen and Glyn. Due a comeback I think. You could be ahead of the trend as it probably isn't due for another generation.

seeingdots · 21/12/2018 12:02

Thanks everyone! A much more positive response than I had expected!

I prefer with one N I think. Seems more authentically Scottish if that makes sense. This one may yet make it to the (currently extremely short) shortlist!

I like it!!

AlliKaneErikson · 21/12/2018 13:00

As a Glenn Hoddle fan I prefer the spelling with 2 ns. It could well be due for a comeback- it’s not a bad name at all.

Evanna13 · 21/12/2018 13:06

I really like it. I actually know a 5 year old Glen. Lovely name.

MamaDane · 21/12/2018 13:12

My brother's friend is called Glen and he is such a sleaze. He tried to hit on my 14 year old cousin. He even looks like a fox.

Bad associations with this name lol.

eachtigertires · 21/12/2018 13:33

Reminds me of the store manager from the tv show “Superstore”.

Tortorino · 21/12/2018 13:39

It's lovely! Like many others, I would never have thought of it but it's great. It's like names you hear on children/birth announcements and think "oh! Of course! How clever to have thought of that name". It's familiar but unusual.

I don't know any Glens at all, adult or not, so I don't have any feeling about it being dated or anything.

Didyeeaye · 21/12/2018 19:27

I like Glen it's a nice nature name which appeals to me. Glenn makes me think of Glenn close though

DramaAlpaca · 21/12/2018 19:31

It's quite nice with one 'n', a good Scottish nature name. It looks a lot less 70s than when spelled Glenn for some reason.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 21/12/2018 19:34

It reminds me of civil servants, particularly the overworked one from “The Thick of It”.

Weirdly though this doesn’t mean I dislike it.

It’s 100% not in the same vein as Gary though, no way.

Youcancallmeval · 21/12/2018 20:46

Bloody awful. And now I've got "Nothing's gonna change my love for you" as an earworm.

Sophronia · 21/12/2018 23:51

I like it!

Smile19 · 22/12/2018 17:22
