Thinking of Kala Anadahlia for soon to arrive DD. I think it's pretty and unique, but a friend said it may be too much? What do you think?

WrapAndRoll · 20/12/2018 11:48

Is it pronounced Carla or Kayla?

ihatehoney · 20/12/2018 11:48

Makes me think of koala

frazzledasarock · 20/12/2018 11:50

How is it pronounced?

I’d look at it and pronounce it Carla ?

Littleraindrop15 · 20/12/2018 11:52

In gujarti it means the colour black

tammytoby · 20/12/2018 12:28

I'd pronounce it Ka-la. There's no y.

Pixilicious · 20/12/2018 12:29

To both names - what are you thinking??

goldengummybear · 20/12/2018 12:30

Sorry but need help with the pronunciation of Kala. (I'm assuming Anadahlia is pronounced like Anna Dahlia in English)

Xuli · 20/12/2018 12:31

I think you'd get a lot of different pronunciations - is it Carla, Kah'la, or Kay-la?

Abra1de · 20/12/2018 12:31

Kayla?

HundredMilesAnHour · 20/12/2018 12:33

It sounds like a comedy name. Pretentious and made-up. Poor little girl being saddled with a lifetime of that name. Sorry OP but you asked. I hope you're not being serious.

goldengummybear · 20/12/2018 12:45

I believe Kala is an actual Asian baby name.

ribblerobble · 20/12/2018 12:45

Don't actually mind Kala too much and frankly can ignore middle names (is that made up?) but the differences in spelling and pronunciation (when put together) would bug me.

tammytoby · 20/12/2018 13:37

Why are people suggesting it pronounced Karla or Kayla when it is clearly Kala?! I'd say Ka-la.

ZebraKid71 · 20/12/2018 13:43

I'd pronounce it the same as Calla. Which I really like, you will likely get issues with pronunciation but I doubt it would cause too many problems after people have been told once.

TamiTayorismyparentingguru · 20/12/2018 13:46

I know a Calla (like the lily) and I think it’s a lovely name. I’d assume the same pronunciation (no clue where people are getting Carla/Kayla from) but to be honest I much prefer the Calla spelling.

goldengummybear · 20/12/2018 13:52

Isn't Nala from the Lion King pronounced to rhyme with Carla? I wouldn't know if it was Ka la or Carla.

tammytoby · 20/12/2018 13:54

There is no R in the name so why would it be Kar-la?

NotANotMan · 20/12/2018 13:54

Kala is a bit meh but the middle name is just awful sorry

yerdadsellsavon · 20/12/2018 14:02

Both names are horrible

ZebraKid71 · 20/12/2018 14:06

Tarzans mom was named Kala I think.

CollyWombles · 20/12/2018 14:07

Ka-la I like the name, it was the name of a character in the Netflix series Sense 8.

IHopeThisIsAGoodIdea · 20/12/2018 14:07

Chavvy

KittenEsque · 20/12/2018 14:10

Bingo.

Sorry. When I saw the thread title in active, the first thing that popped into my head was Bingo.

PinkCalluna · 20/12/2018 14:12

The pronunciation difficulties only come for people whose accents put r’s in where there aren’t any and don’t say them when they are there.

(Eg those people who pronounce Anna as arhna but drawers as draws) Grin

I’d say Ka-la as I’m Scottish.

I wouldn’t use the name though as there is a large Scottish building company called Cala.

NannyR · 20/12/2018 14:16

I would pronounce it kah-la, to rhyme with gala (which in my accent also rhymes with Karla, but I'm aware that a large proportion of the UK will disagree, due to differences in accents)
