We LOVE the name Atticus but we've been getting lots of negative feedback.
What are your opinions?

Icklepup · 18/12/2018 14:01

I think it's quite nice

TeenTimesTwo · 18/12/2018 14:03

I think it is too much.

They will go through their whole life with:
either 'That's unusual, where does that come from?'
or 'So your parents were big To Kill a Mockingbird fans then?'

YeOldeTrout · 18/12/2018 14:05

Pretentious to me, sorry.
Read Go Set the Watchman before you decide he's your hero. Harper Lee meant him to be a much more balanced character, originally. Noble but deeply flawed, too.

GladysKnight · 18/12/2018 14:07

I'm afraid I think it's a bit silly - and makes you look pretentious as pp suggested. Sorry.

Doyoumind · 18/12/2018 14:08

Too much.

ShotsFired · 18/12/2018 14:09

yeah it's very very try hard look at us (sorry).

SuperstarDJ · 18/12/2018 14:09

I like it but do think it’s too much for everday life.

GimbleInTheWabe · 18/12/2018 14:10

I quite like it OP. I've heard of one other little Atticus (a boy) here in SE London. It does sound alike quite a trendy name I suppose but that doesn't put me off.

Needcoffeecoffeecoffee · 18/12/2018 14:10

I like it and almost called ds1 atticus. I've heard people talk about 'go set the watchmen' but haven't read it so that put me off a bit. But what really stopped me using it was I didn't like the nickname/shortening to 'atty'

Peachbubble · 18/12/2018 14:10

I like it

chumbal · 18/12/2018 14:10

Personally I live the name but perhaps use it for a pet? Wink

Butterflycookie · 18/12/2018 14:11

I like it!

Sakura7 · 18/12/2018 14:12

Definitely too much, sorry.

Ohyesiam · 18/12/2018 14:12

No , not too much. It’s really lovely.

ZebraKid71 · 18/12/2018 14:15

I'm not a fan, again go set a watchman would put me off as I have no other reference for the name.

I don't like any of the shortenings either, which may be problematic with a 3 syllable name.

I also live it Yorkshire where people drop the 't' sound so it really wouldn't work well around here!

FawnDrench · 18/12/2018 14:32

Use it as a middle name?

Phebes · 18/12/2018 14:43

Too much (sorry)

festivedogbone · 18/12/2018 15:16

Pretentious, sorry.

StormTreader · 18/12/2018 16:20

To me that has "please bully me!" all over it, sorry.

Frosty66611 · 18/12/2018 16:25

I really dislike it. I know a woman at work who has a son called Atticus and they call him “Atti” for short which is awful

ChristmasTwatteryDoesMyHeadIn · 18/12/2018 16:26

If you really love it, I’d suggest it as a middle name? Whether it’s fair or not, it’s a name that will mark him out, for his whole life, and I wonder how he’d feel about it.

Flamingosnbears · 18/12/2018 16:30

No not at all

RangeRider · 18/12/2018 16:30

I can imagine a cat called Atticus....

KnightlyMyMan · 18/12/2018 16:40

🤔 It’s awful to say but I think it entirely depends on your social situation and where you see him ended up in life?

In my office we have loads of similar names (Rupert, Giles, Arabella, Horatio, Tarquin) so it’s rather normal. My colleagues have kids with equally ‘out there’ names! We happen to live in an affluent area so it seems the schools (even state ones) are full of unusual names! So in that situation I think it’s a lovely name and he would ‘fit in’.

However, where I grew up (very working call northern town) you’d be laughed out of the room with a name like that! You’d be making him a target at school!

It really does depend on your local area/ social group!
