Pela. Pronounced Pell-ah.
I think it's simple and pretty, but I've never heard anyone else with this name before, so I'm quite cautious. Opinions, please!

I think you'd need to spell it Pella to get the pronunciation you want.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 16/12/2018 15:28

My mum had a friend Pella. She didn't have a very good life so I think for that reason I'm not too keen.
Her actual name was Rapella

CoatTails · 16/12/2018 15:29

Pela would be pronounced ‘Peeler’ in the UK. I’d probably go for Pella- I’ve never heard of it before but I like it!

knittedjest · 16/12/2018 15:30

Makes me think of pallets. Also known as shit. So it makes me think of literal shit.

GinIsIn · 16/12/2018 15:30

I thought Peeler too. I wouldn’t.

BoebePhuffay · 16/12/2018 15:31

Peeler in some parts of the U.K. peela in others.

MrsJayy · 16/12/2018 15:31

Yes you would need to double L it if not it could be pronounced peela . I don't like it but if you do then use it.

Bluntness100 · 16/12/2018 15:35

I'm not a fan either to be honest and wouldn't wish it to by my name.

It makes me think of thr footballer pele,

Bombaybunty · 16/12/2018 15:35

I think it can be the shortened version of Pelagia?
I quite like it.

cariadlet · 16/12/2018 16:25

Never heard of it. Is it a made up name or a traditional name from another country?

MrsJayy · 16/12/2018 16:28

It is a Hebrew name just a bit obscurer than Sarah and Rachel

Luckingfovely · 16/12/2018 16:29

I like it as the short form of Pelagia!

Santababyclaus · 16/12/2018 17:21

I'm not keen on it but agree with Pella spelling. I'd pronounce Pela more along the lines of Paler.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 16/12/2018 18:21

Doesn't sound very nice tbh OP, sorry.

hoki · 16/12/2018 18:35

Sounds Spanish to me. I don't like it whether it's pell-ah or pee-lah

MikeUniformMike · 16/12/2018 18:40

It's fine.

Phebes · 16/12/2018 19:02

I know a dog called this! It’s quite sweet.

FissionChips · 16/12/2018 19:08

If Penn and teller and a baby together that’s what it would be called Grin

mortifiedmama · 18/12/2018 22:01

I like it. I'd automatically pronounce it peh-la due to Pele the footballer.

myidentitymycrisis · 18/12/2018 22:10

Paella might be used to tease a child with this name.

strawberrypenguin · 18/12/2018 22:18

Hmm, I think you'd constantly be correcting pronunciation I'm afraid.

Cazastrophe · 20/12/2018 00:41

Sounds like Paella unfortunately.
Reminds me of Moda in Pelle shoes... The name means marvel so how about Mireille (French for miracle pronounced mi-rye)? Or Amari.
