Middle name for Lillian

DH and I are settled on Lillian but I'm having doubts about the middle name. We both want to use Elizabeth as we like it and both have family members with the name, but I'm worried there's too many 'L' sounds in 'Lillian Elizabeth'. Am I being silly? It's so difficult to tell with 36 week baby brain!

My DGM’s name is Lillian Maria. Lillian is a beautiful name!

sue51 · 10/12/2018 13:53

They are both lovely names. I think they go well together.

Icklepup · 10/12/2018 13:55

I think they go well

I think they go well together. Lillian is a beautiful name.

My first thought when I read your thread title was Elspeth, so perhaps there's something about Lillian that makes it fit really well with an 'El' name.

florascotia2 · 10/12/2018 14:08

Both very nice names. Congratulations.

Probably you know the following, but just in case not: opinions vary, but some people say that 'Lillian' is a short form of Elizabeth. Others say that it comes from the Latin for the lily flower. But even if that's true, 'Lili' is definitely a diminutive of Elizabeth in several languages:

Beth, Liz, Lizzie, Libby, Eliza, Bette, Betty, Lila, lily.

Thanks all! That's really put my mind at rest @Whyislarryhappy I did think about that but we have a double barrelled last name so I think it would be way too much

I know its Lillian and not Lily but Lily is actual one of tgd many shortenings for Elizabeth, believe it or not.
So it'd be like having a Daisy Margaret in effect.
Lillian Rebecca
Lillian Abigail
Lillian Cecelia
Lillian Victoria
Lillian Florence
Lillian Frances
Lillian Jessica
Lillian Juliet
Lillian Aurora
Lillian Martha
Lillian Adelaide
Lillian Margaret
Lillian Ivy
Lillian Evangeline
All similar vein to Elizabeth.

Go with Lillian Elizabeth it is rather elegant.

FawnDrench · 10/12/2018 19:14

Lillian Grace Elizabeth

Shadow1234 · 10/12/2018 19:21

I think it sounds fine, and in all honesty, middle names are not normally used alongside the first name on a day to day basis anyway. I only use my middle name when filling out forms.

Jummynbean · 10/12/2018 19:35

I like Lillian Anna x

WaxOnFeckOff · 10/12/2018 19:40

I'm not sure that Lillian Elizabeth works. As others have said, Lily is a diminutive of Elizabeth. And there's a lot of syllables going on there.

I'd go for a simple one syllable middle name, such as Kate or Jane.

Lillian Margaret
Lillian Virginia
Lillian Mary
