Impasse over boys' names. Opinions on girls' names?

This is the way my husband and I pick a film to watch. I suggest things I like or am willing to watch. My husband passes on all of my suggestions. He has no suggestions of his own. We either watch nothing or watch something neither of us is keen on.

This is the exact same situation we find ourselves in for baby names. I'm due in one week!

Boys
For me, I always loved Henry for a boy, but my husband's boss and boss's boss have sons with the same name.

Does anyone have any ideas similar to Henry? I also quite like Alexander, Joseph and Benjamin. I also secretly like Peregrine, but would never dare.

Girls
Shortlist for girls:

  • Audrey
  • Heidi
  • Charlotte
  • Jemima

We somewhat agree on that list! Help with opinions/similar suggestions would be gratefully received.

I like your boys' list with the exception of Peregrine and your girls' names are all nice apart from Heidi, which in my opinion is twee. If pushed to choose I'd say Alexander or Charlotte.

LivininaBox · 05/12/2018 18:16

What's wrong with Henry? Your husband will change jobs, and your son is unlikely to be hanging out with your DH's bosses sons in any case.

Phebes · 05/12/2018 18:19

Agree you should just use Henry!

Otherwise, how about Edward, Hugo, William, Jasper, Theodore?

I love Jemima for a girl. How about Tabitha, Matilda, Claudia, Clara, Margot, Adeline?

Phebes · 05/12/2018 18:22

Or Camille?

8DaysAWeek · 05/12/2018 18:38

You have described my husband exactly. Quick to say no but slow to give it out any ideas.

If you like Henry then don't rule it out for the reasons you have.

I love the name Heidi.

applesauce1 · 05/12/2018 19:57

@LivininaBox I have said this to him but he is very stubborn. It is my favourite boys' name, so I am struggling to stop myself from feeling disappointment.

I'm a teacher, so in my mind, many names already belong to children I know and love. I've never taught a Henry, strangely, so it felt meant to be!

He is a boy and we called him Henry.

Birth started well and I went to 8cms at home. Then went to the midwife led centre and was in the pool. Things were obviously not right after I'd been pushing for 4 hours with his head presenting but him not actually moving further than that. I had a spinal and they manually tried to turn him three times. My husband was appalled by this barbaric process. Then I had to have a general anaesthetic and he was delivered via Caesarean section.

When I came round, my husband was holding Henry and the midwife told us both he's a boy. I asked my husband what his name was and he said he thought his name was Henry, without missing a beat.

I don't feel any sense of triumph over this, I'm just so grateful that this was one of my husband's ways of acknowledging what a physical trauma birth can be for women.
