So I am expecting my first biological child, It's going to be a girl and I need to find a good name for her.
I would love for it to be Swedish as I was born and raised in Sweden but for it to be both pronouncable and acceptable in England.

My adoptive niece got the beautiful Swedish name Madicken but when I took over her care here in England the name got a little unfortionate since people pointed out it sounded like "My dick"

So prevent this thing to happen to my second baby I want to make sure the name will work here in England.

Here are the names I currently have:

Hilda
Freja
Moa
Nora
Lovisa

Any thouhts or suggestions?
Sorry if my english is off, I just moved Smile

@UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea ah yes good point! Haha that's a perfectly good reason to have another

FlamingJuno · 05/12/2018 08:28

Agnetha.

A little suggestion for you. They have 'name days' in Sweden. When is your little one due? You might surprise yourself by finding a name you like on that date

Malin = Stalin
Wetting myself. That is the correct pronunciation (and intonation) but it looks sooo funny!

NameChange30 · 05/12/2018 14:38
Grin I'm sorry, it was the best example I could think of Blush FWIW I think Malin is quite a nice name but doesn't translate as well as some of the others mentioned.
Allthatglittersisgold · 05/12/2018 14:46

Haha. The only Malin I know (Swedish) pronounces her name like Maw-leen

AdultHumanFemale · 05/12/2018 16:15

Glitter perhaps your friend is from the south where the dialect might give the first syllable an 'aw' sound. Or she might, like me, have adapted the pronunciation of her name to better fit with English sounds.

AndItStillSaidFourOfTwo · 05/12/2018 16:20

Lovisa is lovely. So's Lucia.

Madita?

Printerneedsink · 05/12/2018 16:27

I don't understand why you'd pronounce Malin Maw-leen?? It's pronounced Maa-lin in Swedish. How odd.
Lucia is likely to be pronounced Lusha in England.
I'd go for Olivia, Anna, Elsa or Hilda.
Kerstin and Agneta are nice but not pronounced the same at all.

Printerneedsink · 05/12/2018 16:27

Not Lusha, Loosha.

Printerneedsink · 05/12/2018 16:28

Lena is not pronounced the same either....

FloatingthroughSpace · 05/12/2018 16:32

My swedish friend has daughters called Tove, Sigrid, Brindis and Freya

I really like Brindis....strong and sassy.

Printerneedsink · 05/12/2018 16:50

It all depends on exactly how similar you want the pronounciation to be really....

n0ne · 05/12/2018 17:04

Frida
Ingrid
Astrid
Freyja
Malin
Tilde

I like Hilda, fwiw

Allthatglittersisgold · 05/12/2018 19:47

She does live in the South of Sweden. It definitely sounds like Maw-leen. I went on the website sv.forvo.com just now to hear how it suggests its pronounced in Sweden . They all sound like Maw-leen to me. At least in my accent (Scottish) thats how I'd describe the sound.
