So I am expecting my first biological child, It's going to be a girl and I need to find a good name for her.
I would love for it to be Swedish as I was born and raised in Sweden but for it to be both pronouncable and acceptable in England.

My adoptive niece got the beautiful Swedish name Madicken but when I took over her care here in England the name got a little unfortionate since people pointed out it sounded like "My dick"

So prevent this thing to happen to my second baby I want to make sure the name will work here in England.

Here are the names I currently have:

Hilda
Freja
Moa
Nora
Lovisa

Any thouhts or suggestions?
Sorry if my english is off, I just moved Smile

My DD has a Swedish 'j' in her name and people always pronounce it as an English 'j' (understandably), although Freja might just be ok.

Sofia is probably easiest of those not mentioned!

Anna
Elsa
Karin (I think people will pronounce this right once heard)
Katrin
Greta
Linnéa (my favourite but have a relative already named that)
Ciri (maybe not with Apple Siri...).

I also like Malin but I'm not sure how it would be pronounced by British people!

Lena

@SimplySteve I know a Swedish Sanna!

IkaBaar · 04/12/2018 19:57

Would English speakers find Malin hard to pronounce- I do?!

NameChange30 · 04/12/2018 19:59

I wouldn't know whether to pronounce it as a long or short "a", ie rhyme with Stalin or Tallin.

NameChange30 · 04/12/2018 20:01

In French "malin" means clever / crafty. Often used sarcastically "c'est malin, ça" when it clearly isn't... Could just be my DH though.

Beatrice, Brigitta, Clarissa (Clary), Ava??

Any good?

From my Swedish friends -

Trine (pronounced Trina)
Frida
Denise
Maria

Valasca · 04/12/2018 21:09

Do you mean cousins? Your aunt and uncles’ children? Siblings are only brothers and sisters.

ThomasRichard · 04/12/2018 21:13

Eva
Erica
Malin
Beatris
Lena
Hilda
Anna
Hanna
Bianca

TakeMe2Insanity · 04/12/2018 22:26

Misses point of thread - 23 siblings! Wow.

spreadingchestnuttree · 04/12/2018 22:31

Im hoping 23 siblings is a mis-translation Shock Maybe 23 cousins?

Allthatglittersisgold · 04/12/2018 22:37

I have Swedish family and been there many times. I love:

Ebba
Freja
Maja
Lucia
Alva
Sanna
Amelia
Tilda
Lena

I used to love Elsa till a certain movie ruined it....

midsomermurderess · 04/12/2018 23:07

I like them all, but Hilda might be seen as very old-fashioned here. It doesn't have the 'old lady' chic thing going on. I really like Solveig, fwiw.

teazle · 04/12/2018 23:15

I know a Lovisa (pronounced Lov-ees-a), as far as I know she never has any trouble with people pronouncing it wrong.

I like so many of the names suggested on here!

I like Ylva, I've only ever met one and she was fabulous!

MrsEricBana · 04/12/2018 23:23

Personal favourites are Inge & Astrid. My Swedish friend has amongst her children (with some of the names given above) a girl called Marina, which is lovely.

Tomboytown · 04/12/2018 23:30

Agnetha
Agnes

Rosalise · 04/12/2018 23:31

If it's any help, most IKEA curtains and fabrics have girls' names Wink

nocluenoidea · 05/12/2018 07:45

Did your Mum give birth to 23 children?!

nocluenoidea · 05/12/2018 07:47

You may find people want to spell Freja as Freya

I know a Swedish Esme, Elsa, Alma, and Charlotte- all of which work well in English

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 05/12/2018 08:19

@nocluenoidea it would be 24 as OP said she had 23 siblings.

Seriously though, if you got to 23 you'd have to have another to go for the even two dozen. 23 is such an untidy number.
