Thoughts on Francis for a boy?

Husband thinks he’ll be a target for bullies.

I love it!

Aww I think it's cute!

rosieposey · 03/12/2018 12:02

My eldest DD's bf is called Francis ... he's mid twenties and it suits him so well, I think it's a lovely name ❤️

starandson · 03/12/2018 12:03

I love it. I know one and he goes by Fran.

ernjas · 03/12/2018 12:17

Flamingosnbears · 03/12/2018 12:17

saganorenscarandcoat · 03/12/2018 12:23

Name of my grandad. Lovely name

BumbleDevon · 03/12/2018 12:30

My uncle's name, he's a Frank. Which is nice too.

Bluerussian · 03/12/2018 12:53

Nice, classy. Frank for short.

JaneJeffer · 03/12/2018 12:54

I love it.

Snowwontbelong · 03/12/2018 12:55

Hasn't done Francis Rossi any harm!
It's actually our family mn.
Mine and dd's, was my dgf and his df's.

Polkasq · 03/12/2018 12:58

I like it, with Frank/Frankie for short.

ZebraKid71 · 03/12/2018 13:14

It's my favourite boys name but dh vetoed. It will be middle name if this next baby is a boy. Gutted I can't have it as a first.

17caterpillars1mouse · 03/12/2018 13:36

I love it but took it off my list as I only like Francis not Frank / Frankie at

CarolSpatula · 03/12/2018 13:41

I love it and would have used it if I had a boy.

Sexnotgender · 03/12/2018 13:47

I love it but took it off my list as I only like Francis not Frank / Frankie

Yeah that is a concern. DHs family are a big fan of shortening names, can just imagine them calling him Frannie🤦‍♂️

It's not quite my thing but I can't see why it would make him a target for bullies. As far as I'm concerned, the short form (if any) for a boy is Frank, I'd be surprised if anyone called him Fran or Franny which are usually girls' names.

lebkuchenlover · 03/12/2018 16:40

Great name! What is teaseworthy about it Confused? It's not like Willy or Bumface..!

n0ne · 03/12/2018 16:48

Was top of my boy list but we had a girl Grin

Sexnotgender · 03/12/2018 17:52

What is teaseworthy about it
I think it’s more that it’s also used as a girls name.
I don’t think he’ll be teased either just wondered if others had opinions.

Frances is the girl's name and it's pronounced slightly to Francis.
Fran-ces as opposed to Fran-cis.
Francis as a boy's name is old - St Francis of Assisi, etc.
However, although I'm a traditionalist at heart and should like Francis, I don't. There's something about the "cis" ending that makes me think it's...cissy and a bit weak sounding.
I don't think that about Frances, the girl's name, which I really love.

daisypond · 03/12/2018 18:19

"slightly differently" - that should say!

Sexnotgender · 03/12/2018 18:50

We actually chose it from St Francis of Assisi, also the current pope is Francis.

I absolutely love it and would use it if I hadn't called my daughter an such an obviously catholic name. It would just be too much!

Peeps12 · 03/12/2018 19:05

We deliberated and deliberated so pleased we chose Francis for our DS love it. It's a very nice name as a child and also an adult.

dontcallmelen · 03/12/2018 19:07

I love the name Francis, was DF name but he was always known as Frankie.
