What does everyone think of the name *Magnus?

Saw it on another thread and really, really liked it! It's one I haven't heard of very often at all.

I like it a lot! It's a real, solid name in the Angus/Malcolm vein, reads as a bit Scottish to me, and is quite unusual but not loopy.

Piffpaffpoff · 02/12/2018 19:47

Love it.

daisypond · 02/12/2018 19:47

I like it. But I know of a few younger ones now called it. Definitely on the rise.

ernjas · 02/12/2018 19:48

@daisypond I wondered if it would be!

Love it.

Excellent name.

ForAMinuteThere · 02/12/2018 19:57

Love it. I saw the same thread I think!

Moominfan · 02/12/2018 20:02

Brilliant name

ernjas · 02/12/2018 20:04

Yes, there was 111 boys called Magnus last year! I thought it would be way rarer! Not sure how I haven't came across it sooner!

Only know of one - he’d be mid-thirties now. He has brothers called Rupert and Guy and a sister called Brittany.

Notquiterichenough · 02/12/2018 20:35

Magnus Carlson. Coolest Norwegian there is right now.

Stuckforthefourthtime · 02/12/2018 20:39

I love it in Scotland or Scandinavia!
It was on my shortlist but dropped off when I heard a parent call out 'Magnus!' to a child scooting too fast and it sounded a bit much for suburban England. Here I prefer Marcus or Angus.

Chewbecca · 02/12/2018 20:41

Very nice but I would expect him to be Scandinavian. Which may or may not bother you.

ginnylocks · 02/12/2018 20:51

awesome name 👍👍👍

PastramiAndRye · 02/12/2018 21:36

Absolutely love it. Was in my list but I had girls!

stellarfox · 02/12/2018 21:41

I like it a lot, and Malcolm. What nicknames could you use? I’m not sure how I feel about Gus!

Enidblyton1 · 02/12/2018 21:48

I love it, for anyone with Scandinavian heritage. Not quite so much if you don’t.

Messalena · 02/12/2018 21:49

Love it! He could be Max for short if you don’t like Gus.

Chocolatedeficitdisorder · 02/12/2018 21:50

I'm Scottish and I've known a couple. In both cases they've been strong, intelligent men. I like it a lot.

dementedma · 02/12/2018 22:06

on the rise here in Scotland - the new Noah here

SnowyPaws5 · 02/12/2018 22:16

Awful. I am honestly surprised that so many people here like it. Reminds me of magnum ice creams. It sounds very trying to be 'different' try-hard.

Astronica · 03/12/2018 03:33

It's one of my favourite names. I think it's strong and traditional and love nn Gus.

Icklepup · 03/12/2018 04:11

Love it

RedDwarves · 03/12/2018 07:51

I like it, but I think it will become very popular.

shiveringtimber · 03/12/2018 08:31

Wonderful name!
