Uncommon Irish boy name suggestions

My mind is completely blank and I'm convinced this baby will never have a name.

I would like something that is not too common - although DS1 is called Oisín, which is gaining in popularity each year.

ronatheseal · 01/12/2018 16:41

If you are looking for uncommon, there is Tuathal (pron. TOO-ah-hul), Rumhann (RUH-van), Blámhac (BLAW-vahk), Bran (raven) or Branán (wee raven), or Ossán (not the same as Oisín, but means 'wee deer'). Or what about Deigh (pron. DIE), or Art (bear) or Ólcan (wolf).

Thank you all so much for these suggestions! Why are boy names so hard to pick?! None of these feel quite right, but they've definitely given me some ideas, so thank you.

RavenWings · 02/12/2018 19:56

A lot on Sunguras list aren't Irish names, or at best horribly Anglicised names/surnames. You might be best looking at Rollercoaster for name ideas, unless you get a lot of Irish people on here who will know what names are common or rare for young Irish kids now, as well as what would be ridiculous.

Suggestions: Fionain, Diarmuid, Lorcán, Donnachadh, Tóla, Cathal, Éanna.

Littlegreyauditor · 02/12/2018 22:34

Oisin is such a lovely name. I nearly had an Oisin, but got diverted into a spiral of Daithi, Domhnall, Donnachadh, Daire as they just matched more with the surname (in both Irish and English).
When I settled on Dáire it was a fairly uncommon choice, but it has just exploded in popularity ever since so I suppose it’s hard to say if a name will stay unusual. I have only ever met a couple of Lorcans though, and I meet an awful lot of Irish names in work.
