NameChange30 · 30/11/2018 11:23

Um. I like Jesse and Hazel. Not a fan of the other names I'm afraid.

Elllicam · 30/11/2018 11:28

I like Augustus (August?) and Hazel.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 30/11/2018 11:31

I'd slate rather than rate all your boys names aside from Dougie and Augustus. Eric is okay.
Monty is particularly dreadful.

Of your girls names. I love Darby and Quinn and Frances. Even though. They're not my style. Jovie is nice but keeps auto correcting to Movie. Also I'd assume you were an avid Jon Bon Jovi fan, even though its spelt different. Mika is okay.
Elvie is just silly, sorry. It sounds like an elf
Don't like the others either sorry.

OhTheRoses · 30/11/2018 11:32

Hazel is the only "real" name on your girl's list.

Augustus (gloop)
Emrys (Merlin)
Eric
Ivan (The Terrible)
Remus (Lupin the werewolf)

The real boys names.

So, Hazel and Eric are potential runners.

Seriously though OP - this is a joke?

OhTheRoses · 30/11/2018 11:33

I missed Frances

Twatforahat · 30/11/2018 11:34

Hazel is the only one I like. Augustus if you were using Gus maybe.

sluj · 30/11/2018 11:37

Looking at your girls list, I would be guessing you want a boy. They are mostly quite masculine in derivation and style

starandson · 30/11/2018 11:39

Ok.
I don’t like any of the boy names at all, sorry.
Quinn and Frances I like for girls.

starandson · 30/11/2018 11:39

You could also have Quinn and Francis for a boy.

thismeansnothing · 30/11/2018 11:46

DD if a boy was going to be a Jesse

DD2 due soon is potentially going to be Jessie

So yup. Like that one 🤣

rhubarbfool · 30/11/2018 11:48

I like Eric and Jesse for a boy (Eric is very cool I think - has a 70s vibe).

Augustus is too much - August is better, but a bit weighty for a little boy (in the same way Earnest is, for example.)

For a girl, I like Frances (nn Frankie? v. sweet), and Hazel. I know a Mika, not keen though.

I think the others are a bit try-hard, to be honest.

bookswinebookswine · 30/11/2018 11:49

Elvie and Ezri for girls love them! Dougie for the boy

daisypond · 30/11/2018 11:50

My top are Ivan for a boy and Frances for a girl, both of which I really love. Not so wild about the others - there seems to bit a mixed bag of styles.
Augustus - OK-ish - feel like it might be a hard one to pull off.
Dougie - yes, is short for Douglas, Dougall, etc.
Emrys -if you're Welsh
Eric - yes, but prefer Erik
Grey - hm, OK as a middle name
Ivan - yes, like this a lot.
Jesse - OK but I'm not wild.
Monty - only if short for Montague,
Perry - no.
Remus -maybe
Sylver - no.

Andie - only if short fo Andrea, and I'm still not keen.
Blair - no
Darby - no. It's a male name, as in Darby and Joan. Rather like it as a boy's name, though.
Elvie - no, too cutesy.
Ezri -never heard of this
Frances -yes, my favourite. A lovely classic name, not cutesy.
Hazel -OK, but no my cup of tea.
Jovie -no. Is it short for something?
Lux -No. I'd assume a boy. Lucy/Lucia?
Mika -isn't this a boy's name? Yes, if short for Michaela.
Quinn - no. I see this as downmarket, as well as a boy's name.
Reina - Maybe. It could grow on me.

steppemum · 30/11/2018 11:57

I love your boys names. (except Grey and Sylver - how sad to be called Grey - the most boring colour in the world!)
But they are not very current. Many young people will just not like them in my experience.
This name board is biased towards fashionable names I think.

Your girls names I am less keen on, to me, many of those are not names, and certainly not girls names.
Blair - reminds me of Tony Blair, and if I used it, it would be for a boy.
Lux = soap
Darby = Darby and Joan, or Derby the town spelt wrong
Elvie = sounds like Evie gone wrong, or an elf

In fact most of your girls names seem to be girls' versions of boys names? (Andie, Blair, Ezri, Quinn)

I like Hazel and Frances, but wouldn't use any of the others.

OhTheRoses · 30/11/2018 12:09

So many lovely names op:

Classic genre:
Thomas, James, Edward
Alice, Charlotte, Louise

Unusual trad genre:
Magnus, Gawain, Caspar
Cressida, Olympia, Xanthe

Vintage names:
Albert, Stanley,
Edith, Mabel

ernjas · 30/11/2018 12:10

Thank you everyone for your honest opinions.

@OhTheRoses I actually really like Magnus, Caspar and Mabel, thank you!

OP posts:
OhTheRoses · 30/11/2018 12:18

Caspar was the wise man who carroed the gold op. DS was forn on Christmas day so it is his third name.

DD's 3rd name is Mabel.

I like Magnus too. Mine are 20's now.

I have a v v unusual first name and hated as a child that every teacher, nurse and almost everyone else remarked on it. Having said that my dc don't like their very classic first names.

They have a classic name, a family name, and a more unusual one.

steppemum · 30/11/2018 12:26

This is where personal taste becomes so particular.

I only like 4 of your names OhtheRoses, and think some of them are seriously horrible.
(Stanley? Xanthe? shudder)

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 30/11/2018 12:28

Don't like any of the boys names sorry.

Hazel and Andie are ok.

IVflytrap · 30/11/2018 12:29

I like Emrys, Eric (love this name), Jesse and Perry from the boys, and Ezri, France, Hazel and Jovie from the girls.

Suggestions:

Rufus, Evander, Griff, Tristan, Idris, Evan, Owen, Jory, Jude, Seth, Kester, Lucas, Osian, Ivar, Enzo, Blake, Rhett, Jude.

Avril, Aster, Kezia, Blythe, Erin, Lyra, Fern, Briony, Naomi, Saskia, Lois, Etta, Eleni, Mabli, Lowri, Briar, Morven, Nancy, Sadie, Fay, Cleo, Jay.

IVflytrap · 30/11/2018 12:30
  • Frances
itbemay · 30/11/2018 12:31

Sylver and hazel for me

ernjas · 30/11/2018 12:31

@IVflytrap thank you for suggestions! I've never heard of Jory and not sure on it but I think it might grow on me? It definitely stood out.

I also really like Saskia, Etta and Cleo from the girls suggestions!!

SylvanianFrenemies · 30/11/2018 12:34

Dougie as a nickname for Douglas is OK. Ivan is quite nice. Is Emrys Welsh, if do find if you are also Welsh. Really dislike all the other boy names.

Andie, Hazel and Frances all fine.

Bring brutally honest, the other names seem quite faddy/try-hard.
