I'm really struggling with this!!!! Have managed to come up with a list of names that would "do" but there's not yet anything I love...

What do you think of the following names?

Carmen - bit meh?
Emerald - kind of Disney-esque? DH loves it though
Olive - my fave but can't convince DH
Vera
Audrey - also love this but DH not so sure
Valentina - LOVE this but feel it's too long (and don't like Val/Tina) so potential middle name?
Olympia
Alice - too boring?
Marnie - i think this is nice but DH says it's chavvy (think he's thinking of Armani!)
Jane - too plain?
Erin
Topsy

Marnie is on our list but ive seen it a lot on here lately so can see it becoming popular.

I love aubrey too and think of aubrey o'day an american female singer.

Messalena · 29/11/2018 15:48

I like Olive, Carmen and Valentina.

How about Celeste or Cosima?

Nedzilla · 29/11/2018 15:54

Erica?

Marina instead of Marnie?

I like the name Erin Valentina from your list

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 29/11/2018 16:37

Valentina is beautiful. Just go with that.

Alice - fine
Carmen - nice

The rest aren't great. Vera is dire!

daisypond · 29/11/2018 16:38

I love Audrey, and I like Vera too. Valentina and Olympia are a different style but I like them. I also like the simplicity of Jane.

ernjas · 29/11/2018 17:08

Carmen - don't like at all
Emerald - I think this could grow on me, especially with nn Emmy
Olive - quite like this
Vera - don't like at all
Audrey - hate this
Valentina - also agree potential middle name
Olympia - not sure about this
Alice - quite like this
Marnie - also agree it's chavvy
Jane - also agree it's too plain
Erin - cute but a bit boring imo
Topsy - actually in the minority that likes this and can't see why it's so hated!

TatianaLarina · 29/11/2018 17:47

Olympia and Valentina. Carmen’s ok.

I don’t like the rest.

Shadow1234 · 29/11/2018 18:43

Erin is my favourite from your list, with Audrey coming a close second.
Aubrey was always a mans name, but I think over the years it has been more widely used for females.

Pixilicious · 29/11/2018 18:51

Carmen - love it
Emerald - awful
Olive - Old lady name, very fashionable
Vera - no
Audrey - love it
Valentina - Love it too. Don’t shorten it!!
Olympia - very nice
Alice - bit boring
Marnie - ok but sounds a bit like moany
Jane - meh
Erin - meh
Topsy - horrific

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 29/11/2018 18:57

Carmen. Awful frumpy and harsh.
Emerald. Don't like it but its no more Disney that Aurora or Ariel and Theyre pretty accepted names now.
Vera . Again not to fussed.
That said though I think a baby Vera would be fab.
Audrey. See Carmen.
Marnie. It's just OK. Id neither rate or slate it.
Alice. Boring but There's nothing to dislike about it. It's a nice pretty inoffensive name.
Valentina. Too posh, Okay if ypj are posh, though.
I'm a scouser and (common as muck) so if I started shouting Valentina all over the Asda. Everyone would think id lost my marbles. We I have like, but we won't go into that.Grin
Olympia see Valentina.
Erin. See Alice.
Jane. 30 years ago I'd have agreed it is too plain but in classrooms where every other child is called either Olivia or Lily. Jane is anything but plain.
Olive. See Audrey and Carmen.
Topsy. I Know I probBly shouldn't but I love Topsy. It's too risky though.

Other names to consider.
Carrie. Celia. Corrine. Coral. Alisha. Aurora. Elise. Evelyn. Elena.Eleni.
Claudia. Olivia. Eliza. Joanna. Julia.
Maude. Violet. Iris.

Astronica · 29/11/2018 23:11

Audrey and Alice are both gorgeous and the standouts from your list for me. Topsy is sweet but only as a nickname.

I like Valentine but not Valentina. I like Olympia but you need to be prepared for a name that's a bit more 'out there' in other peoples' eyes, not that that matters but you do have a mixture of very mainstream and more bold names. I like Jane. Erin is okay but a bit dated. The rest don't appeal to me.

detachablehoof · 30/11/2018 14:03

Thanks for the opinions. Food for thought!!

It's so tricky to find something which I'm sure I won't regret, and is unusual enough but not weird.

(I'm still puzzled why everyone hates Topsy so much!!)

Mymycherrypie · 30/11/2018 14:35

Probably because Flopsy, Mopsy, Cottontail and Peter sound like viable sibling options. Grin

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 30/11/2018 15:11

How about Tansy as an alternative to Topsy.

detachablehoof · 30/11/2018 19:39

@Awwlookatmybabyspider Tansy is nice actually - although it feels like it should be short for something? Anastasia?

OP posts:
Awwlookatmybabyspider · 30/11/2018 20:07

Ooh that's nice. (Anastasia). Although I do think Tansy is a name in its own right

LegoPiecesEverywhere · 01/12/2018 07:51

I love Alice

rainbowstardrops · 01/12/2018 08:28

I thought that Topsy was an autocorrect - sorry!

I only really like Erin from your list but I too like Anastasia or Tansy.

I had a Tamsy in my class a few years ago.

username1724 · 01/12/2018 08:34

Erin is my favourite, love Aubree for a girl, or what about Audrina?

Emerald is a bit too much I think, valentina is pretty but yeah Val or Tina is a no..

Olympia is pretty, I've met a few little ones at work with this name. Would potentially get shortened to Olly though..

MeganJ93 · 02/12/2018 15:30

Carmen - Carmen is very meh.
Emerald - I prefer other gem names such as Pearl, Opal & Ruby.
Olive - Olive is a very nice name.
Vera - It's ok but I don't particularly like it.
Audrey - Beautiful.
Valentina - I find it a bit over the top.
Olympia - Same as Valentina to be honest.
Alice - So pretty.
Marnie - Cutesy. I don't like it as a given name.
Jane - Very plain. I don't really see the appeal of Jane.
Erin - Pretty. I like it
Topsy - Terrible. It would be bad enough for a pet.

motortroll · 02/12/2018 15:45

What about Avery?

JKMM · 03/12/2018 23:25

Carmen, Emerald, Alice and Erin are all lovely. I'm not a fan of Marnie or Vera if I'm being honest and Topsy reminds me of a kids' TV character rather than an actual person. But go with what you love, don't worry what anyone else thinks Smile
