REALLY want your opinions - Josephine or Paloma??

Our baby really needs a name (she’s a month old) and we’re being indecisive.

Don’t want anything too common, and like a nice meaning. And want it to sound okay with other dd’s. Already have a Talia, Evangeline and Phoebe-Noelle.
We are currently between Paloma and Josephine... (list previously had Florence, Penelope, Laurel, Davina so you can see our style).
Worried Josephine is too long? We would prob give her a nn (Josie or posie) but worried others would automatically shorten to ’Jo’.
And is Paloma not a good choice as will then have 2 dd’s names starting with P??
And which goes best with my sibset?
THANX!!

Personally prefer Josephine and can't see the appeal of Paloma, though I know it's popular recently. Josie is a lovely nn. Also like Laurel! (And Sorrel).

Argeles · 25/11/2018 21:51

Paloma is lovely.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 25/11/2018 21:51

Love Josephine/ josie. Congratulations.

RitaSueandFatFuckingMavis · 25/11/2018 21:51

I actually like Laurel.
It's lovely.

Josephine is definitely better than Paloma. I can't help but think only of Paloma Faith.

BelindasRedPlasticHandcuffs · 25/11/2018 21:52

I prefer Josephine (Josie), cute for a child and beautifully elegant for a woman (but Paloma probably works better with your other children's names due to the ending of Evangeline if you're bothered about that!)

Shadow1234 · 25/11/2018 21:53

I dont think you can guarantee that Josephine wont be shortened to Jo at some point, but I think Josie is a nice nn.
Not sure what Paloma gets shortened to (as I have never met one).

Have you considered Georgina nn Georgie
Francesca nn Frankie/Fran/Ceska
Charlotte nn Lottie
Natasha nn Tasha
Jasmine nn Jazz
Millicent nn Millie
Erin
Freya
Georgia
Seren
Zara

I can't imagine having a baby for a month and still not having decided upon a name!

Of the two I prefer Paloma. Josephine has a worthy vibe that i'm not in to.

pilates · 25/11/2018 22:22

Josephine

Oly5 · 25/11/2018 22:30

Prefer Josephine over Paulina.
My favourites from your list are Laurel and Penelope

Oly5 · 25/11/2018 22:31

Paloma that should say!!

Thesearmsofmine · 25/11/2018 22:35

Of the two I prefer Paloma but I also really like Laurel.

WishfulSprouts · 25/11/2018 22:35

Love Josephine and Josie really cool imo- plus lots of other nickname options.

Bath9000 · 25/11/2018 22:36

Josephine is lovely

MoorMummy · 25/11/2018 22:37

I love both but Paloma edges it for me, unusual plus I love Paloma Faith, in fact I saw her live last night 😊

Sethis · 25/11/2018 22:37

Josephine shouts 'we wanted a boy' to me, while Paloma sounds like American Trailer trash. Neither would get my vote.

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 25/11/2018 22:40

They are both lovely but I think Josephine is nicest

Its not too long (only 3 syllables so shorter than Evangeline)

I like Josie as a nickname

ColdCrumpetsAndButter · 25/11/2018 22:45

Paloma Paloma Paloma

DramaAlpaca · 25/11/2018 23:12

Josephine by miles.

AdaColeman · 25/11/2018 23:14

Paloma is lovely!

5BlueHydrangea · 25/11/2018 23:19

Definitely Josephine, but it is a family name here so possibly biased..
My dd has it for a middle name and I often call her Josephina instead (could be Josefina) which I think is softer. I like girls names ending in A it has a nice sound too it (and have 3 of them!)

TatianaLarina · 25/11/2018 23:39

Paloma.

I like Josephine, but you’ve already got an Evangeline.

BackforGood · 25/11/2018 23:45

I love the name Josephine, but if you are looking for 'matching styles' then I'd have thought an unusual name such as Paloma would 'fit' that criteria more, with your other dcs' names, which are much more 'out there' than Josephine.

Bojangles33 · 25/11/2018 23:56

What have you been calling her for the last month?!

Josephine

ladybirdsarelovely33 · 26/11/2018 00:03

Paloma was on my shortlist for dd. I really like it.
Josephine will be shortened but Josie is a pretty good shortened name.

RavenWings · 26/11/2018 00:10

Paloma, gorgeous name. Josephine is very dowdy imo.
