Lavender?

Does anyone think this is a usable name?? I quite like it but not sure if it's a bit too unusual and try-hard to use.

Lav is not the nicest of shortenings...

RavenWings · 25/11/2018 15:10

I think it sounds pretty, but it's one of those names I can't imagine anyone wanting to be called.

AuntieStella · 25/11/2018 15:11

Neither Lav nor Lavvie are great shortenings (despite Lou/Louis being OK). Illogical, but it's a factor that would put me off. Sorry.

FogCutter · 25/11/2018 15:11

Too twee for me I'm afraid.

And I agree with pp that she will probably get called Lav (kids at school seem to shorten most names).

hellojim · 25/11/2018 15:13

It would make a cute name for a doll or pet but a bit weird for a child

ZebraKid71 · 25/11/2018 15:17

I like it as a full name, but the unfortunate nick names are unavoidable.

ernjas · 25/11/2018 17:18

Yeah, I didn't even think about the nicknames but they're not the nicest! Thanks everyone!

Middle name material.

CloserIAm2Fine · 25/11/2018 17:54

It makes me think of Won Won and Lav Lav from Harry Potter 6, not a great association

I also hate the smell of lavender!

MikeUniformMike · 25/11/2018 17:58

There are lots of botanical names that are pretty. Tansy springs to mind.

FogCutter · 25/11/2018 18:44

Love the name tansy.

Sophronia · 26/11/2018 23:29

I agree that it’s middle name material.

DramaAlpaca · 26/11/2018 23:31

I agree with others. It's OK for a middle name, but not for a first name.

SilverySurfer · 27/11/2018 17:28

Not unless you want your child to be called Lav.

Soiree · 27/11/2018 17:29

What about Lilac?

Gyokuro · 27/11/2018 17:37

I hate it, sorry.

Haffdonga · 27/11/2018 17:44

Yes, Lav is an unfortunate abbreviation, so Loo as a nickname instead?

Oh hang on ...

Perhaps just go the whole hog and call her Toilet .

junebirthdaygirl · 27/11/2018 17:46

What about Lavinia?
Don't like Lavender.

LegoPiecesEverywhere · 01/12/2018 07:13

Not keen

MeganJ93 · 02/12/2018 15:47

I've never understood the appeal of Lavender as a name.
