Where are Girl Names?! Where?!

Already have one DD and feel we have used all our name choosing skills on her and picking her name was difficult enough! (She's called Nancy)

I think I like Sally, Ida and Billie. But not enough to love them and pick one. So far short of dipping my hand in the Scrabble tile bag and making up a new name, if think I like those above, what else may be a good shout?

(Margot and Elspeth which always crops up on these threads although nice are a no go)

As Nancy is an old pet form of Anne, would you want something similar? A very old name?
Meg/Maggie/Daisy, etc (forms of Margaret)
Betty/Bette/Eliza, etc, etc (forms of Elizabeth)
Molly/Polly/May (forms of Mary)
Kate/Katie/Kathryn

Sally is nice. It's a form of Sarah. As is Sadie. Sara?

Nancy was top of my list, then I had a DS. Expecting again, so maybe this one will be a girl?

I also like
Peggy
Winifred
Ivy
Iris
Edith/Edie
Ursula

Probably others...

Inertia · 24/11/2018 16:50

I think Marianne makes a good sibling for Nancy, and you could shorten it to Madge. Though the rhyming potential for Madge should be considered very carefully.

IVflytrap · 24/11/2018 20:13

Is Elliot a girls name? The only one I know of is in Scrubs, and the joke is that she has a boy's name because her father wanted a boy. Never heard it on a girl in real life.

IVflytrap · 24/11/2018 20:16

I have heard of a female Ellis, however.

FlyingMonkeys · 24/11/2018 22:50

Yes, I have a female friend aged 40 called Elliot. So not unheard of though pretty unique for the UK. She goes by Ella vs Ellie in respect of a nn as she hates the latter. I love it OP and I'd not be scared to use it if I had another daughter.

thismeansnothing · 24/11/2018 22:54

Mentioned to DH our niece who's also our goddaughter is called Ellie and says it's too similar. I'm so far begging to differ 😄
