Thea.

I've recently heard the name Thea, and it sounds so lovely and mystical. However, I've heard that it's been rapidly gaining popularity over the last few years, which worries me because I don't want a name that will be eventually be common. I'm not searching for a name that's ultra rare, but I think it's nicer to have a slightly unique name. What do you guys think?

I know two babies named Thea and a 60yo friend with the name.
Robbie Williams's daughter is Teddy, short for Theodora.

stellarfox · 23/11/2018 07:14

I think it’s lovely. It might become a bit more popular but I don’t see it becoming an Olivia. I think it will remain heard of but not that popular

Bythebeach · 23/11/2018 07:14

Just realised I didn’t answer your question. I have never met a Thea but I do think it is very on trend and likely to rise in popularity.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 23/11/2018 07:18

Robbie William’s first DD is Theodora. Perhaps they call her Thea as a shortened version?

OhWifey · 23/11/2018 07:34

I like it. I've heard a Bethia too which is pretty

OneStepMoreFun · 23/11/2018 07:38

I know one Thea. It's a beautiful name imo. Quite classic so even if it does become popular, it will never lose its charm.

NinjaGoSaysNo · 23/11/2018 07:40

I know one. Pronounced Thee-uh.

NinjaGoSaysNo · 23/11/2018 07:41

Oh and also one of my sons has a "old man" name from before that was a thing. We thought it was quirky at the time, now it's in the Top 20.

Tadda · 23/11/2018 07:44

I think it's a beautiful name! (Would go on my list but can't have and names ending in 'ah' - only because have an Amelia (and Thea just wouldn't go together).
Not too sure about popularity (obviously! I picked Amelia!) But I don't really care about that- a lovely name is a lovely name xx

Winterwonderland12 · 23/11/2018 07:54

I know two Theas but loads of Theos!

Soph88 · 23/11/2018 08:05

I know 3 babies called Thea in the last 2 years. I think it's going to start becoming quite popular. I'm not overly keen on it but I think that's because I am in Essex and so will end up pronounced Fee-a due to the accent.

Syvilla · 23/11/2018 10:28

I only know one, aged 20 - she’s a lovely girl. She’s from a Jewish family so I’d always assumed it was a Jewish name until recently.

Flamingosnbears · 23/11/2018 10:55

Wouldn't think so...

overagain · 23/11/2018 11:00

I know a couple. I love the name and it was on our list for DS (we didn't know he was a boy!). It'd be on my list for this one (who is DD) but one of my best mates from baby group has it as her little girls name. She is 3.

SallyWD · 23/11/2018 12:08

It's a lovely name. There's one I my daughter's class aged 6. I don't know any others though.

MrsChristianTrevelyanGrey · 23/11/2018 12:13

I know of 6 baby Thea's born in the last 18 months, I'm in the south east, it's a nice name though :)

Bittermints · 23/11/2018 12:19

Lovely name. There was one at primary school with my two. She'd be mid 20s now.

RuthW · 23/11/2018 14:30

I have come across two baby Theas in the last 6 months. I think it's getting more popular.

ZebraKid71 · 23/11/2018 14:50

I personally know three under two, and know of a few others. It's quite popular in West Yorkshire at the moment - which is strange as it really doesn't sound good in our accent!

Brokenribses · 23/11/2018 15:11

I first heard the name Thea when studying Keat's 'Hyperion' for o-level (she is the sister of Saturn). I loved it and wanted to call one of my children Thea but didn't have any girls.

Pimpernell · 23/11/2018 15:23

It's a lovely name but has certainly become much more popular in the last few years. The kind of people who ten years ago would have called their daughter Martha are now going for Thea.

wallyfeatures · 23/11/2018 15:27

Don't know any. How about Althea?

Thegirlhasnoname · 23/11/2018 15:28

I’ve never met any adults called Thea but when I had my baby (7 weeks ago) there were 3 newborns on my ward called it

greendale17 · 23/11/2018 15:37

I know 2

Winterwonderland12 · 23/11/2018 17:52

Along with Theo, Thea is becoming more fashionable.
