Thoughts on Annabel?

Or should it be Annabelle? I'm never quite sure! Either way do you like the name and which spelling is correct, the more I look at both the more unsure I am of the correct spelling!

But iwantsofa if you were to spell it Annable (which I'm aware is a legitimate alternative spelling of Annabel) it would be pronounced exactly the same. So I don't get your logic.

Do you then think Isabel should be spelt Isable?

Its just okay. Not the worse name there is but certainly not the best. Very meh TBH. Im probably in the minority but I don't like the Annabel spelling. It makes me think of babybel
If I was going to use it id spell it Annabelle or Anabelle

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 23/11/2018 14:37

Annable, ewwww I don't like that spelling. Annable the canable.
Its pronounced Ann-a-Bell
not Ann-a-ble.

Annabel

I don’t think there is a correct spelling tbf!

My name is Annabelle. I was born in the 80’s. Personally I’ve always loved my name. Was always the only Annabelle in all of my schools etc. And quite liked having a name which was different and not the classic Laura/Gemma/Amy of those years. Only ever come across a few in my lifetime, more so younger children as it’s become a bit more popular with the Annabell Doll.

Personally I’m obviously used to seeing Annabelle. So think that’s the correct spelling. Ironically seems others on here prefer it Annabel. But that looks completely unfinished to me and an awful way to spell it 🙈 and I prefer the french spelling of belle meaning beautiful. Think that’s why my mum chose that spelling.

Thought I’d also just add. I do get it spelt wrong from people who don’t know me. Birthday cards from distant family friends etc or work colleagues. But it’s honestly never bothered me..

Prefer Annabel. Nice name. I know only adult Annabels

dontticklethetoad · 23/11/2018 22:45

We have an Annabelle (has ended up Annie, which I love tbh).
The only others I've heard of, with that spelling or it's variations, are two women who are both over 40.

Lookatmemeow · 23/11/2018 22:51

I have a 7 year old Annabel. I knew both Annabels and Annabelles as school friends but the shorter spelling worked best with our surname and somehow felt more succinct.

There's quite a few Annabels in our primary school at the moment but no more than one per class.

Pemba · 23/11/2018 23:42

The spelling Annabelle is soo frilly though. Plus it always makes me think of this:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annabelle_(film)

Also I think a few years ago there was a children's animation about a cow called Annabelle.

It sounds just as nice of course, but the spelling Annabel is simple and more classy IMO.

LegoPiecesEverywhere · 01/12/2018 08:06

I like it but it is very popular at the moment

Frazzled2207 · 01/12/2018 08:29

Like Annabel.
Annabelle is ok but unnecessarily frilly IMO.

Winterwonderland12 · 01/12/2018 10:26

It always gets misspelled!

Astronica · 01/12/2018 12:40

Annabel is lovely. Either spelling is 'correct' - there is no such thing really but Annabel is the more expected spelling and I find it more appealing than Annabelle which looks too fussy.

ShadyLady53 · 01/12/2018 22:58

It’s a quite common where I live (North West). Quite a safe name.

mathanxiety · 02/12/2018 02:36

I prefer the Annabel spelling. Lovely, classic, pretty name.

LittleLlamaontheduskyroad · 02/12/2018 03:05

I've known more Annabels than Annabelles, although I like the name a lot. I think Annabel might look more "professional" as your DC grows up, but as always, it's up to you OP.

Nanalisa60 · 02/12/2018 03:10

It’s a lovely name!! but there is a baby doll called baby Annabell I should know I have spent a fortune on it and all the stuff that goes with it my granddaughter just love her baby annabell

Bluerussian · 02/12/2018 03:14

Lovely name, beautiful. She can be called Anna or Bel.
I too prefer the name without the extra letters.

Wish I'd been called Annabel.

MeganJ93 · 02/12/2018 14:52

Annabel is lovely. I like this spelling.

Stargazer124 · 03/12/2018 16:37

Nice name but agree that the different spellings can be a little annoying - Anabell, Annabel, Anabelle, Annabelle etc. There's also a doll called Baby Annabell!
