Hi all,

We are thinking of calling our son Maxwell Brian (Middle name still up for debate, but i think that will be the winner).

Our daughters name is Charli.

Just wondering if people think these two names go together. I'm just a little bit worried that Charli is a more modern version and Maxwell feels a bit more traditional. We will more then likely call him Max as i'm assuming others will too so that gives me more comfort as to me Charli and Max suit i think. I'm just looking for some reassurance.

Cheers all.

I like Maxwell with Max as a short version. I don't like Charli though. Why don't you use Charlotte with Charli as a short version?

A friends little one is called Maxwell and we call him Max. Fab name

Sidandbump · 21/11/2018 08:36

They are very different names but I don't think that matters really. He will likely only be Maxwell for formal occasions and Charli and Max sound great together.
Does Charli have a middle name? If she does and its more traditional then you could maybe go for something more modern for Maxwell to balance them out.

Frenchy36 · 21/11/2018 08:55

Charli is 18 months old so wont be changing that to Charlotte. My husband didnt like Charlotte so settled with Charli.

Her full name is Charli Eva. Eva is a family name on my side.
Brian is a family name on my husbands side, but we are tossing up something different. So that's an option middle name wise. Maxwell is actually a family name on his families side also but when he suggested it a while ago it took me time to get use to it but now i don't mind it. Just need to think of a middle name to make it balance i think.

Apollo Charli is already here. OP isn’t asking for opinions on that.

Love Max. DS2 was very nearly Maximilian. Charli and Max sound good together!

ApolloandDaphne · 21/11/2018 09:29

I see that now. Apologies. Serves me right for responding to threads when still half asleep!

meepmoop · 21/11/2018 09:36

You could just call him Max with no longer name, that's what we did

Shadow1234 · 21/11/2018 09:37

I think Maxwell is a lovely name and Max goes well with Charli. Not sure on Brian though, but because it is a family connection, then I can understand why you are hinking of it.

Rachelover40 · 21/11/2018 09:40

I like Maxwell, Max for short.

Never, ever heard of a girl called Charli. Weird.

thighofrelief · 21/11/2018 09:43

I have a Max, half wish we had called him Maximilian but it's a bit much really. I love Maxwell too, are you Scottish?

Frenchy36 · 21/11/2018 10:01

Rachelover40....There are 3 Charli's within her childcare and my nephew (11) has a Charli in his class and there's a girl a bit older called Charli, i don't actually know any male Charlie's. Where i am from its not weird at all. I'm not from the UK either. And i'm also not asking opinions on my daughters name, purely looking for Maxwell opinions. Her name will not be changing.

My husbands Mum's side is Scottish. Brian comes from his fathers, not entirely sure where that side is from. I don't think they do either. I never really knew his grandfather Brian, so i'm honestly not fussed if we use it or not. I'd personally like his first name but hes not to sure on that. I'm feeling a lot better on the Max side of things. Thanks everyone.

I'd just go for Max. Maxwell reminds me of Maxwell House coffee.

midsomermurderess · 21/11/2018 11:56

It reminds me of Robert Maxwell, bu that's a generational thing.

AnotherClone · 21/11/2018 12:04

I’ve seen Rachelover40 on other threads saying mean things so don’t take offence OP.

ladybee28 · 21/11/2018 12:11

Never, ever heard of a girl called Charli. Weird.

And now you have! Congratulations and welcome!

Oblomov18 · 21/11/2018 12:22
