Reuben/Ruben

Immensely struggling with boys names!
So I orginally like Rupert then Rory, Caleb, Remy and ruled out Joseph due to dislike of nickname Joe.
I was looking back over my posts and I saw a few people recommended Reuben.

What do you think of the name Reuben/Ruben does it go well with older brother Noah?
Also which spelling? Reuben or Ruben? It appears Ruben is the spanish spelling.
Many thanks!

Noah and Reuben sound very religious together!

lebkuchenlover · 18/11/2018 15:54

I prefer Rupert

firsttimemumma89 · 18/11/2018 15:58

lebkuchenlover There were a lot of negative comments about Rupert on my original post.

Oh really? Well I like it a lot.

NannyR · 18/11/2018 16:06

I prefer Reuben to Ruben, it's a really nice name but it does sound very biblical/old testament paired with Noah.

firsttimemumma89 · 18/11/2018 16:09

Oh the other name I considered was Louis/Louie.

Reuben for spelling, it's nice & is good with Noah.

Joseph won't inevitably get Joe, but I understand your reluctance if you don't like Joe. I used Joseph as a middle name because that way it couldn't get shortened.

ReginaPhalange89 · 18/11/2018 16:18

Noah and Reuben go perfectly! Definitely spelt Reuben

IHaveBrilloHair · 18/11/2018 16:20

You should definitely use the Reuben spelling if you choose that.
I wouldn't use Joseph if you don't like Joe, you might ever shorten his name but other people, and even him may well

Icklepup · 18/11/2018 16:20

Reuben

firsttimemumma89 · 18/11/2018 17:05

Thank you everyone.
Keep going back to Rupert. I know of two born locally. I am just concerned regarding the reactions/negativity.
Do you think Noah and Reuben sound too religious next to each other?

numberseven · 18/11/2018 17:18

I don't think most people would think of the religious aspect to be honest. Besides Reuben is lovely.

CheeseTheDay · 18/11/2018 18:07

Noah and Reuben are both 'mainstream' names now, so I think the religious thing dilutes a lot, once a Biblical name enters the mainstream. I doubt anyone thinks 'oh that's a religious sibling set' if they meet say, a sibling set of Matthew, Elizabeth and Sarah, yet all are Biblical.

Now if it were a sibling set of Nehemiah and Raphael, then yes, you could argue the religious aspect! However, as I said, it doesn't apply (at least to me) to Noah and Reuben.

daisypond · 18/11/2018 18:11

I do think Reuben and Noah together are very Old Testament. Noah has been mainstream for about 20 years or so, so that's OK. But Reuben hasn't. But definitely that spelling over Ruben. I prefer Rupert or Louis.

What do people think about Rupert Ted as a name?

OP posts:
ReginaPhalange89 · 18/11/2018 19:34

Rupert Ted makes me immediately think of Rupert the Bear !

stellarfox · 18/11/2018 20:27

What about Rufus? Quite similar to Rupert but I much prefer it!

DramaAlpaca · 18/11/2018 20:43

I don't like Rupert at all, but if you use it please don't call him Rupert Ted - all I can think of is Rupert the Bear.

firsttimemumma89 · 18/11/2018 21:09

I just love Ted/Teddy and it hadn't dawned on me the Bear reference Blush Will avoid

Desmondo2016 · 18/11/2018 21:14

Shadow1234 · 18/11/2018 22:34

Prefer Louis

lebkuchenlover · 18/11/2018 22:40

Rupert Edward would be lovely!

Ribeebie · 18/11/2018 22:46

I really like Rueben. It was on our short list for DS.

2isabella2 · 18/11/2018 23:16

Reuben (spelt like that) or Louis (prefer that) of the ones you've mentioned. Both great names.

Not a fan of Rupert or Teddy. I know a lot of Teddys now (very popular in my set) and it hasn't grown on me at all despite knowing a lot of lovely ones. Too twee. Love Edward though.
