Hi everyone.

So, I think we've decided on Emma for our baby's name. Now looking at middle names to go. We did like Grace but I have had a niece since and that's her middle name (plus, my cousin has a Grace).

Any ideas please.

Our surname starts with R so maybe not something with an R.

Thanks guys xxx

I think steering clear of Grace is wise - Emma Grace is a little dull.

If you like virtue names like Grace, then maybe:
Emma Faith
Emma Constance
Emma Felicity
Emma Hope
Emma Joy

If you like short names like Grace, then:
Emma Maud
Emma Ruth

I also like:
Emma Victoria
Emma Harriet
Emma Violet

I love the name Emma! It works on any age and in a lot of languages and cultures too.

I’m not keen on Grace as a middle name tbh. It’s a bit... overdone. And Emma isn’t exactly out there, so I’d probably opt for something less common as a middle name.

Emma Blythe
Emma Josephine
Emma Liberty
Emma Gwendolyn

Also love Emma Faith, as suggested by a pp.

Emma Joy.

I taught an Emma Joy once and the name has always stuck with me as lovely.

Emma Leonie R*
Emma Louise
Emma Felicity
Emma Meredith (pronounced the Welsh way, so accent on second syllable eg Mer RED ith

I think - given we tend to speak naturally in rhythm - it's not just what your surname begins with but how many syllables it has. Eg Emma Hope Black sounds abrupt (apologies to all EHBs out there).

Yakadee · 17/11/2018 16:38

I know what you mean. I actually have a really nice surname (I think so anyway) - Roberts. So think I'm fairly lucky as far as choosing a name goes x

You definitely need a more unusual middle name then - Emma and Roberts are both so common!

Womble75 · 17/11/2018 19:08

I'm an Emma Louise (Which most of my generation are lol) but I've always loved my name. Family call me "Em" which I've never minded.
Emma Faith or Emma Willow are both nice - Emma May nope

Emma Roberts is a fairly well-known actress, just FYI. Nothing scandalous about her though, as far as I know.

How about Emma Pearl, Emma Camille or Emma Elise?

2anddone · 17/11/2018 19:43

Emma Jayne??

WithAFaeryHandInHand · 17/11/2018 19:45

I’ve never heard of Emma Roberts... I’m dreadfully out of touch though.

WithAFaeryHandInHand · 17/11/2018 20:02

Yeah I googled her. Thanks though Smile.

My point was she isn’t famous enough to be a household name. Wouldn’t put me off at all.

I used to work with a Diana Ross Grin.

Yakadee · 17/11/2018 20:13

Yeah I've heard of her (that's why I didn't share my name originally) and she has had some bad press actually but didn't think she was that famous really.

We might not even stick with Emma 100% although it's the name we do both like the most? X
