strong historical female names?

my beautiful baby girl was born six days ago and is still nameless! my partner is happy for me to choose the name so here i am asking for help. i’m thinking maybe a historical name? maybe a strong female from history? the names we liked are georgiana, evangeline, and lola - but none of them are sticking out to us now! her middle name will be charlotte, and we’ll maybe squeeze poppy in there as she was born on armistice day. any suggestions are welcome - doesn’t need to be historical!

Yes, also really like Georgiana.

thank you for all your suggestions! there’s some really lovely names here so hopefully they’ll be one that fits. i’m going to sit down with my partner and two boys today and see if we can all decide on one that suits her! (although my four year old wants to call her pikachu so maybe not!)

Grace O'Malley (Gráinne Mhaol if you're Irish), also known as the Pirate Queen, was a force and a half to be reckoned with.

Matilda after emperess Matilda. Also means 'mighty in battle' which is a strong name for a girl.

Valentina, the first woman in space.

Elizabeth - choice of 2 queens, first uk woman doctor, prison reformer and I'm sure you could find others.

Charity, after Charity Adams, standing up for women's and black people's rights in a segregated army cannot have been easy.

Ada or Grace for a computing connection.

Beatrice Shilling raced motorbikes and in WWII improved Rolls Royce engines (fitted to aircraft) so they didn't stall in battle.

Rosa Parks, already mentioned,.

Victoria Drummond, marine engineer who served at sea in WWII.

FairfaxAikman · 18/11/2018 07:31

Sashh even more impressive that Victoria Drummond was from nobility (a goddaughter of Queen Victoria) and had to fight to get her qualifications- they once failed an entire room full of other candidates, all male, rather than let her pass.
I think she sat it something like 16 times in the end and still had to get it in another country.

Congratulations! What a lovely name, with a great namesake. Smile

CountFosco · 19/11/2018 12:29

Lovely. And I'm sure she'll love the meaning behind her name, DD2 has one of the names suggested above, and even though she was named after her great grandma (an artist who was a champion boxer, a real character herself!) DD2 particularly likes the link to the famous person.
