Thoughts on using Peggy as a middle name? Or would you go with Margaret? We are looking use it as a middle name if DC is a girl as it is the name of a dearly missed great aunt.

I’d use Margaret but I’m snobbish about nicknames as official names.

Love Peggy though- fab name. I’d imagine she’d be a very sassy toddler.

Goostacean · 13/11/2018 00:36

Interesting. Usually I’d say use the full name, but since it’s after someone and as a middle name... Was aforementioned great aunt known as Peggy, or would she have identified with Margaret also? I’d probably choose on that basis.

Sungura · 13/11/2018 07:06

I'd go with whichever sounds best with the first name.

AJB3001 · 13/11/2018 07:11

Hahah i love it! Although I'm slightly bias, every since I was two my mum has called me Peggy (not my actual name...or even a middle name) but even on birthday cards or when we speak on the phone 22 years later she still calls me it! X

If your aunt was known as Peggy and you want to honour her, I just go for Peggy rather than Margaret, especially is using it as a middle name.

ThanksItHasPockets · 13/11/2018 15:12

For a middle name and to honour a specific person I think Peggy is lovely as a middle name, and I am usually staunchly in favour of full names on birth certificates.

Polkasq · 13/11/2018 15:24

I vote for Margaret.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 13/11/2018 16:43

God no. Peggy Mitchell.

Glumglowworm · 13/11/2018 22:23

I usually prefer official names to nicknes but as it’s a middle name to honour someone I would say go with Peggy.

TheGrassIsGreener3 · 13/11/2018 22:31

Go with Peggy. It's much nicer than Margaret and you want to honour someone with the specific name.

MikeUniformMike · 13/11/2018 23:39

Peggy. It's sweet and it means a lot to you. Margaret is also nice, as are the many diminutives.I'd be inclined to use it as a first name.

DramaAlpaca · 13/11/2018 23:41

Margaret, definitely. I have nothing good to say about Peggy, sorry.

MarinetteDupainCheng · 13/11/2018 23:43

I love Peggy, makes me think of Peggy Carter (Marvel).

Also, if you’re using it to honour your aunt and she was always Peggy rather than Margaret then Peggy makes more sense.

mikapatika · 13/11/2018 23:52

Meg or daisy are nicer diminutives

Thetigerwhocameto · 14/11/2018 00:02

Thanks, mixed views. It will be one or the other but thanks for your thoughts @mikapatika it would just seem a little silly to call her anything but one of those two.

If I’m honest I’ve never LOVED either name, but she was known more as Peggy.

We are thinking DD will have the first name of Orla.

So Orla Peggy?

Ive just come on the baby names board to ask about Peggy... for a first name. My dad has really been putting me off it. I wish I had never told him now.

Headstand · 14/11/2018 17:15

I love the name Peggy, I completely agree with the previous posters though - as a middle name and a way to honour a loved one, Peggy rather than Margaret is fine.

Astronica · 16/11/2018 10:35

I think Peggy is lovely, and would definitely use it to honour a Peggy, not Margaret.

Bittermints · 16/11/2018 10:41

I think Orla Margaret sounds a bit better than Orla Peggy but given how rarely people mention their middle names I don't think that would put me off using Peggy.
