Robin?

Hi!

I posted earlier this week a list of names and questions blah blah blah (sorry if you answered before, this may just be a repeat for you)

Basically just wanted further opinions on the name Robin.

It's (surprisingly to me) risen the ranks to become one of my favourite names.

I like it for a boy, but currently know no male Robin's (except, of course, Robin Williams RIP) but 3 female Robyn's my age and another 2 under 2.

So what do you think? Would you see it as a boy or girl name? It it too 'wet' of a name?

I think Robin is a great name.

formerbabe · 11/11/2018 22:09

I like it as a girl's name but not as a boys name.

Eleanor90 · 11/11/2018 22:09

It’s great for a boy. I have met a couple under 10, so it’s fairly unusual now but not too much so. I really like it.

CrispbuttyNo1 · 11/11/2018 22:10

I like it as Robyn for a girl but not as a boys name.

musicalmama · 11/11/2018 22:11

I love it for a boy. Sounds friendly and reminds me of Christopher Robin from Winnie the Pooh too.

halcyondays · 11/11/2018 22:14

I like it for a boy , but not for a girl.

Hubblebubbletripletrouble · 11/11/2018 22:17

I love it for a boy Smile

FairyFantastic · 11/11/2018 22:17

Yeah the issue is most people I know think of it as a girl name now too. In fact, DD baby-friend is Robyn and a girl :/ Only thing that puts me off for a girl is the character in How I Met Your Mother - really disliked her!

musicalmama yeah that's what I think too (and I love Winnie the Pooh - and the name Christopher actually). I tried to imagine if it would fit a child of mine and DP, I think Robin is cute for a kid (and friendly as you say) but the nicknames Rob and Bob could work as he got bigger.

I really like it

Srsly · 11/11/2018 22:22

I think it's a lovely name. It was on our list too, along with Rowan which we also liked.

silverliningsa · 11/11/2018 22:25

I really like it as a boys name!

siobhan0710 · 11/11/2018 22:25

It's my dads name. I love it.

FairyFantastic · 11/11/2018 22:35

Srsly I like Rowan too, but with DD being Violet I'm not sure a plant theme would be to DP's liking. I also like Rory/Ruaraidh/Ruari so must have a thing for R names!

I love it but then I did have a huge crush on Michael Praed as Robin of Sherwood. Grin

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 11/11/2018 22:37

Rory/ Ruairí is fantastic.

There was a discussion thread on this board fairly recently where the OP asked for what people thought constituted a wet name- went to a few hundred posts. Robin was one of the most commonly referenced names for boys, which was interesting.

FairyFantastic · 11/11/2018 22:41

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain ooo I'll have to find it. I've found on mumsnett my wet names aren't the same as most haha I agree that Robin sounds a bit 'young' (again, Christopher Robin) but again the nickname Rob is quite strong when they're older. I do find it interesting though, and can deffo see why it's a 'wet' name to some.

I know 5 male Robins and one female Robyn, so definitely think of it as a male name. I like it.

Dontsayyouloveme · 11/11/2018 23:00

I love the name, both female and male versions. My brother was called Robin and he was such a gentle soul.

I think it’s a really cute name

Shadow1234 · 11/11/2018 23:47

I only like it for a girl tbh

BambooToothbrush · 11/11/2018 23:49

I love it!

DramaAlpaca · 11/11/2018 23:49

It's OK for a girl but I don't like it for a boy.

Smile19 · 12/11/2018 17:19

We have a Robin (boy) so obviously don't think it's wet. Really love his name. He gets called Robbie / Rob a lot. I think it's a traditional name which is unusual but not too out there (if that's what you like). Congratulations and good luck.

stellarfox · 12/11/2018 18:01

I think it’s a boys name but I am not keen on it! I think it’s a bit dated

foxtiger · 01/12/2018 19:49

It's not one of my favourites but I definitely prefer it for a boy rather than a girl.
