Suggestions for shortening ‘Electra’

HeebeeJeebies · 09/11/2018 13:05

We love the name Electra. But would rather not use Elle/Ellie-type shortened versions ourselves due to other family member’s names.

Any suggestions for shortening this?

OP posts:

Is she going to be a superhero?

Leccy is a nickname but honestly, you should reconsider doing this to your child.

Desecratedcoconut · 09/11/2018 13:51

But the Electra complex is such ugly weird battshittery I just can't imagine dumping it on your daughter.

MotherOfDragonite · 09/11/2018 13:52

I think it's a beautiful name but better in its full version rather than shortened.

A friend of mine called Alexa always gets called Lecky, which I think could happen here.

lebkuchenlover · 09/11/2018 14:19

Names don't need to be shortened! My dd has a 3 syllable name that never gets shortened. We al love the full version!

Electra is beautiful and is easy to say. No need to shorten it imo.

exWifebeginsat40 · 09/11/2018 14:27

yeah, google ‘Electra Complex’ before making any final decisions. also lol at ‘Leccy’ as a short version.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 09/11/2018 14:34

Sorry but Electra sounds v stripper-ish

Badwifey · 09/11/2018 14:34

Imagine if "lecci" got together with Bill Grin

HowlsMovingBungalow · 09/11/2018 14:46

haha @ leccy bill

rosydreams · 09/11/2018 14:54

Electra is a super hero name its like calling your child thor but each to their own

i guess the short version ele

Andtheresaw · 09/11/2018 14:58

A nn doesn't have to be a shortening of her name. You can call her anything.
Boo
Tiger
etc

LordPickle · 09/11/2018 15:01

😮 Electra? How cruel.

Polkasq · 09/11/2018 19:18

Electra is a fab name. You could have Lettie, Ettie or Etta as nickname.

earlgreymarl · 09/11/2018 19:20

Round here it would definitely get shortened to leccy .

JC4PMPLZ · 09/11/2018 19:24

Ekkie

Racecardriver · 09/11/2018 19:26

Yeah, Electra complex just can’t move beyond that. What about Allegra instead?

SoftSheen · 09/11/2018 19:29

Why do you need to shorten it?

^^I agree that Allegra would be a great alternative. Very classy.

QuilliamCakespeare · 09/11/2018 19:32

Reminds me of one of the trains in that rather dull musical. Starlight Express!

MrsRubyMonday · 09/11/2018 20:03

Going from the -tra, maybe could swing Tara? It would be a push though. Honestly, I would just use Electra until she chose her own or something fell into place naturally

FekkoThePenguin · 09/11/2018 20:06

Lexie - but it's quite a tragic name isn't it? You could say 'shocking' boom! boom! 🦊

girlandboy · 09/11/2018 20:21

Sorry, I used to work with aircraft. The Lockheed Electra specifically, so I can't get past that.
Also please don't shorten it to Leccy/Leccie either because the leccy man comes to read the electricity meter.

TatianaLarina · 09/11/2018 21:11

Electra is great.

Lettie for a nn? Elka, Elkie.

Creepyexgirlfriend · 09/11/2018 21:17

Why shorten it if you like it?

Cherries101 · 09/11/2018 21:24

I wouldn’t punish a child with this name. Too much teasing potential.

iismum · 09/11/2018 21:31

I like it, a good classical name

There are a lot of good classical names, but I don't think this is one of them - the connotations are horrible ... I think I would feel pretty weird if my parents named me something with a background like that.
