Rani?

I have 2 sons (Taran and Dhillon) and am currently expecting a girl. My dp is British-Indian so we've tried to go for names that work in both cultures. I LOVE the name Rani and can't think of a better name for my daughter. However, dp says he considers it a middle-aged name for "aunties" (even though he knows none). What do you guys think? My only alternative in Naina.

How about Rania?

CBA2RTFT · 07/11/2018 20:01

I like it.

Also, I used to teach a lovely girl called Rajni.

ChaosMoon · 09/11/2018 11:15

I know a Tara and Nina, who were named with the same considerations..

ChaosMoon · 09/11/2018 11:16

Rani is beautiful though... have you tried whispering it to him in his sleep?

Megan2018 · 09/11/2018 11:16

I work with a beautiful Rani in her early 20's. Lovely name.

IggyAce · 09/11/2018 11:20

I used to work with a Rahiela who went by Rani.

MumsKnitters · 09/11/2018 16:58

I know a Rani. She's 27.

MotherOfDragonite · 09/11/2018 17:04

I love the name Rani. It's beautiful, relatively unusual here in the UK, and it's also easy to say, which makes it very transferable across cultures.

I'm not so keen on Naina.

Other names that might work across cultures... Maya, Radha, Asha, Amita.

RoomWithALoon · 09/11/2018 17:11

I like it! I presume it's pronounced "rah-nee". Don't have the cultural reference points to say whether it's an old lady name - but it doesn't sound like it to my WASPy ear, it sounds really pretty!

Polkasq · 09/11/2018 19:04

I think it's really nice. The only Rani I've met was friendly, clever and attractive.

Namelesswonder · 09/11/2018 19:10

I know a Rani, short for Ranbir. She is in her 50s

itssquidstella · 09/11/2018 19:13

I think it's pretty. I also love the name Rupal, I went to sixth form with a very nice Rupal.

BabyLlamasInPyjamas · 09/11/2018 19:31

I loooove Rana

pearlow · 09/11/2018 19:44

Although I adore the name Rani I don't dp is going to budge. Such a shame. Dp likes Radha, I do too but not as much as Rani.

Rupal- I like the name but it makes me think of drag race!

How about just Rupa? Such a pretty name.

AlexaShutUp · 10/11/2018 17:36

How about something like Anjali? Or Rina? Sushma? Anita? Rupali?

hoping2018 · 10/11/2018 23:48

Rani is lovely - much better than the others you mention. Keep working on him?!

Wavyheaded · 20/11/2018 00:19

How about Rekha? Apart from that gorgeous Bollywood actress, I've only known 1 other of that name, so not too common. I think it's really pretty.

MontyPants · 20/11/2018 00:23

Kate Hudson has recently had a daughter named Rani, but apparently they’re pronouncing it like Ronnie eye rolls
