Isaac

I have a beautiful baby boy and he still has no name.

We like Isaac... I'm worried it's not a strong enough name (always wanted a strong name) and that it's maybe too popular?

Thoughts?

I agree tbh. It’s a perfectly nice name - inoffensive, but also a bit bland, boring & overused in my opinion. I wouldn’t associate it as being a ‘strong name’ but then I don’t think it’s a ‘weak’ name either, it’s just a bit blah.

What other names have you liked?

Congrats on your new baby boy Smile

Another2day · 30/10/2018 12:44

I've heard one teased with I suck so I'm not sure if I'd use it tbh.

Congrats btw!

AtticaRose · 30/10/2018 12:48

I think it's great! Lovely strong name.

sadsadsady · 30/10/2018 12:50

I like Issac. Another similar name I like is Isaiah. Not so common in the UK.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 30/10/2018 12:51

I like Isaac! Nn Zac.

MustStopSnacking28 · 30/10/2018 12:52

I love it but I am biased because mine is five months old and obviously I think he is perfect with a perfect name!

I’m not sure about it being a strong name but it means laughter which I though was lovely. And I haven’t met anyone else who has an Isaac I didn’t realise it was popular? I picked to because I thought it was unusual! Maybe I am wrong!

SuperstarDJ · 30/10/2018 12:53

I like Zachary

KrakillBee · 30/10/2018 12:54

Oh no the Zac nn is what puts me off! I'm not a fan of Zac at all...

OP posts:
sadsadsady · 30/10/2018 12:55

I'm not a fan of Zac. I know a Zebadiah and bloody love that thought!

ogglet · 30/10/2018 12:59

It's a lovely name and not too common!
Go for it OP

sadsadsady · 30/10/2018 13:00

I know 3 Issacs and they're all really strong people.

I think it's more popular in America, I don't know any in the UK.

JheronimusBosch · 30/10/2018 13:03

It's one of my favourite names. I think it's strong and classic. Newton, Hayes, Asimov, loads of good examples of famous Isaacs.

ThanksItHasPockets · 30/10/2018 13:09

I like it a lot.

However be warned that people will constantly misspell it as ‘Issac’. Whether as typo or misspelling, two posters have done it already on this thread. This may not bother you!

LightDrizzle · 30/10/2018 13:13

I love it! It’s strong, wise and kind to me.
Other names that are strong to me are:
Caleb
Conrad
Adam
Titus
I prefer Isaac to any of them though. It’s not so common as to deter you, surely, and at two syllables, I’d be surprised if he ends up as Zac, there are likely to be other Zacs in his circle.

sadsadsady · 30/10/2018 13:14

Oops. I'm dyslexic though if that makes you feel better about the misspelling.

Zapho · 30/10/2018 13:17

Lovely name

BertramKibbler · 30/10/2018 13:19

It’s a lovely, strong name.

ThanksItHasPockets · 30/10/2018 13:21

Absolutely no criticism intended on the issue of misspelling - it’s just one of those names with a letter combination which is unfamiliar in English so people often have a mental block on it. See also Phoebe and Phoenix, very commonly misspelled as Pheobe and Pheonix. It’s also very easy when typing to hit a double ‘s’ accidentally instead of a double ‘a’.

sadsadsady · 30/10/2018 13:24

Ds has a welsh name with a LOT of vowels in it so I should know better!

Topseyt · 30/10/2018 13:26

I think Isaac is a lovely, strong name.

GraceMarks · 30/10/2018 13:27

The emphasis is on the second syllable, so I wouldn't be surprised if it did get shortened to Zac, unless you're prepared to constantly correct people who try it! It can also be shortened to Ike, as in Turner - not sure how you feel about that.

Are you keen on having a name that begins with I or is it more the biblical angle that you like? If the latter, how about Emmanuel, Benjamin, Elijah?

RedCabbageHowMuch · 30/10/2018 13:29

I have an Isaac, so I'm biased, but we love it.

It's a good strong, solid name, it also means laughter in Hebrew, not why we chose it, but suits him down to the ground.
He doesn't get teased for it (I suck) but kids will be kids and find something in any name.

If you like it, go for it

RedCabbageHowMuch · 30/10/2018 13:34

Also, it doesn't get shortened to Zac, some of his friends call him I's, as in eyes, not my chose, but he likes it as he's got older.

Get used to spelling variations as well, drives us crazy, especially at Christmas

JheronimusBosch · 30/10/2018 13:34

The emphasis is on the second syllable

Not in English it's not. It's EYE-zək. (second syllable is a schwar).

cucumbergin · 30/10/2018 13:43

Isambard is unusual - would that work or is it too uncommon?
