Hi! We are expecting our third baby at the end of November and are really stuck for names. We already have two boys who have quite traditional names and would like something a little different / more usual for this one (but not too 'out there' either). We don't know the gender. Here's our shortlist. Would love to get your thoughts and any other suggestions you may have too please?

Girls:

  1. Matilda
  2. Ember
  3. Lara

Boys:

  1. Arlo
  2. Rafferty (shortened to Raffy)
  3. Charlie (not unusal, I know, but I do like it...)

Thanks!

Lara or Arlo

presentcontinuous · 29/10/2018 11:37

Matilda (Tilly) or Charlie.

Ember is a bit weird. Why not Amber?

longestlurkerever · 29/10/2018 11:39

I like Lara but prefer Cara or Mara. Raffy and Charlie are nice. Not too keen on Arlo

BertramKibbler · 29/10/2018 11:41

I hate the name Arlo, it’s surely a pet name not a human one?

Also, not liking Ember

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 29/10/2018 13:31

Its obvious my up to you but what you need yo consider is that. You've set the bar now with your naming style by giving your first 2 traditonal names.
They may feel a bit short changed if they have traditional names such as Anthony and Joseph and you call this one something like Romeo.
Also sorry to disappoint but Matilda is far from unusual. I'm falling g over them.
Howeveri think it would nicely with a traditional boys name.
I also don't like Charlie. However its the best out of a has bad bunch.

Shadow1234 · 29/10/2018 14:02

I agree with other poster, that already having two traditional names, could leave the third name looking a bit odd. (really depends what the other two names are. (for example, if you had Thomas and Lawrence, but called them Tommy and Laurie as nn, then charlie would fit in, but without knowing the other names, its difficult to say.

Matilda - Lovely name, but has become quite popular
Ember - not liking at all
Lara - nice name

Arlo - Not a bad name
Rafferty - really like
Charlie - really like

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 29/10/2018 14:04

Arlo and Matilda are really popular at the moment.

Ricekrispie22 · 29/10/2018 16:20

My favourites from your lists are Matilda and Charlie.

GreenTulips · 29/10/2018 17:03

I have 2 traditional names and 1 unusual name

Don't see the issue - it's a name and they don't see it as anything other than their brothers/sister name.

I like Arlo what about Orry or Orianna?

Toofle · 29/10/2018 17:57

You don't know the sex, btw. The gender is something else.

Hashbrownsandbeans · 29/10/2018 20:04

Lara is good.

Ember is something you find in a grate. Matilda is very popular but is nice.

What are your other children’s names? They need to match... I can’t believe arlo or Rafferty would go with two traditional names. Charlie’s just a bit dull, no? It’s alright tho.

userabcname · 29/10/2018 20:08

Lara and Rafferty

curlypasta · 29/10/2018 20:10

Matilda was my chosen name for ds2 but he would have been a matty not a tilly if he had been born a girl. I still love it but won’t be using it for dc3 even if it is a girl so feel free Wink

longestlurkerever · 29/10/2018 20:21

I am not sure Charlie or Matilda are unusual, so if you like them and are worried about the non-matching thing maybe pick one of those? None of your names are crazy weird though - apart maybe from Ember - but even that is easy to pronounce

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 29/10/2018 20:23

Lara or Charlie

I actually like Ember.

Arlo is cool. Not keen on Raffy

Matilda and Arlo are definitely not 'out there'. I know at least two of each.
