Nothing wrong with it but I just don’t like it when used in the Uk, it just irritates me (for no reason). Do like Luke and Lucas though

Shadow1234 · 28/10/2018 20:22

Absolutely love the name. Prefer it to Lucas.

I know its predominantly a boys name, but my daughter knows two girls called Luca and Lucah, (in their twenties), and I think it suits both male and female (although some people are not so accepting of this).

ilovepuppys · 28/10/2018 20:23

@L0lacabana thank you for your honestly - I do feel as though it not a typically English name but I just love how it sounds... Urgh Luca or Lucas it's just hard to decide!

It's nice.

I don't think I'd use it myself unless there was some Italian heritage, but I do like it.

ree348 · 28/10/2018 20:27

I really like it!

Icklepup · 28/10/2018 20:27

Luca is nicer than Lucas

CAAKE · 28/10/2018 20:28

I like it. It's unusual in the UK yet simple.

Shadow1234 · 28/10/2018 20:30

Tbh, there are a lot of names out there that are not typically English, but they still get used a lot, I am a believer that if you really like the name, then go for it. (Its far nicer than Bear, Fox, Pixie etc...) and you will always get someone who doesnt like a name, whatever you choose!

Good luck!

Fraula · 28/10/2018 20:35

I love it. I think it's in the top 100 in the UK for this year or last, so not overly unusual.

Another2day · 28/10/2018 20:36

I know it's a boys name in Italy, but I find it feminine sounding.

rebelrosie12 · 28/10/2018 20:36

Love it. Better than Lucas.

Mrsaverage1 · 28/10/2018 20:39

We loved Luca but didn't think we'd get away with it as our surname is quite traditional so went with Lucas instead. We love it and get complimented on it a lot!

NannyR · 28/10/2018 20:39

I prefer Lucas if you don't have any Italian heritage.

HeronLanyon · 28/10/2018 20:41

Lovely name. Think of Lucca. For some reason think of it more as a girl’s name. Just googled why - the Suzanne vega Luka great song always assumed it was about a young girl. Lovely name either way.

ilovepuppys · 28/10/2018 20:42

No Italian heritage unfortunately... Grandad is Spanish though!

Makes me think of the song “Luka” by Suzanne Vega. I wouldn’t want that association (while it’s good, that song upsets me). I would also, as a result of the song, think of it as a girl’s name (I know that’s not right).

Lucas is nice - I would definitely go for Lucas rather than Luca.

Brandnewstart · 28/10/2018 20:51

Lucas puts me off as it rhymes with mucus. Love Luca though!

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 28/10/2018 20:55

I like it.

SnowyMountains · 28/10/2018 22:05

I know a couple of Luca's born recently, lovely name.

Yeah I also use know a couple of girl Luca's but that was over a decade ago now, seems to have shifted more to a boys name now.

PantTwizzler · 28/10/2018 22:06

I much prefer Luke. Find using a foreign name a bit random if no family link.

Sunshine28 · 28/10/2018 22:09

Really lovely name...

auroraboringalice · 28/10/2018 22:18

Luca here, I'm not sure about this name! Grin

SuperstarDJ · 29/10/2018 01:42

I much prefer Lucas.

pamplemoussed · 29/10/2018 02:06

It’s a really nice name but would cause me to ask why it’s been chosen. It’s an Italian name so I’d expect there to be some Italian heritage or back story; much like Miguel for a baby with Spanish heritage or Angus for a baby with a Scottish link. Without any national link at all it seems odd to me.

BalloonDinosaur · 29/10/2018 02:21

DP loved Luca and really wanted to use it for DS, I liked it too but with no Mediterranean connections felt we couldn't really pull it off.
Almost wish we had though. We went with Lucas instead.
