Opinions on flow...

We're going to use Lena as a middle name, a family name that I love. We've recently decided that Ada is a top contender for a first name.
Does Ada Lena sound a little clunky (lack of flow perhaps?) or do you think we'd get away with the repeated 'a' sound at the end of each name?
If anyone has any other suggestions of how to help the flow or of nice first names to work with Lena, I'm still open to suggestions.

Thanks!

I thought you’d spelt Flo wrongGrin.

RuthW · 28/10/2018 18:11

I think it sounds lovely.

Icklepup · 28/10/2018 18:15

I think it's clunky

MrsVietor · 28/10/2018 18:16

Don't like the sound of those two together.

What about Adalina, with nickname Ada?

Emelene · 28/10/2018 18:17

I definitely pronounced it as "adda leena" which I think comes much easier than Ayda Lena if that makes sense?

It is a bit clunky but if it’s a family name you want to use and you love the first name it shouldn’t stop you- think of how often your first and middle name are used together

If anything, it flows a bit too well, and almost ends up sounding like one name!

I think if it's a family name, you should go for it. Possibly consider adding a different middle name in between, with one or three syllables.

AtticaRose · 28/10/2018 18:40

Alternatively, was Lena short for anything? Elena, Helena or Magdalena could all be nice middle names.

Hildegard36 · 28/10/2018 20:05

I’d think it was one name Adalena.

Not good in my opinion - same vowel sound, both two syllables, both ending in a. Very clunky in my opinion.

Personally I’d use a different first name, or add in a extra middle name between them (they’re both very short names, I think you could get away with it)

E.g. Ada Marie Lena
Ada Florence Lena
Ada Margot Lena
Ada Jasmine Lena

U think it needs another name in the middle to break it up otherwise it just sounds like one name - Adalina.

If she’ll just be called Ada in day to day life it doesn’t really matter though - no one knows the middle names of others when they met them.

It sounds clunky because it’s a pair of trochees so there isn’t much metrical variation. As pp have said, however, it doesn’t really matter. Most peoples’ first and middle names are only said together aloud at their baptism and their wedding (if they have either!). They are two lovely names.
