Opinions on Clay for a boy? Is it too American??

You've been watching 13 Reasons Why I think....

BakerBear · 26/10/2018 19:47

I like american names.

Its fine for a name

JosellaPlayton · 26/10/2018 19:49

Only if you go with Pigeon as a middle name! But seriously I live in America and have never met a Clay. I did used to know a British Clayton though.

Namechanger55555 · 26/10/2018 19:49

When I watched '13 reasons why' I thought "Clay?" What an odd name. I haven't heard it since. Does anyone else know any Clays? (Genuine question)

YourVagesty · 26/10/2018 19:50

Reminds me of Sons of Anarchy. Not a great connection for me.

ThunderInMyHeart · 26/10/2018 19:51

It’s a no from me

Raydan · 26/10/2018 19:52

I know you shouldn't say anything if you don't have anything nice to say Blush but...I think it's awful, really tacky. That's just me though.

IHaveBrilloHair · 26/10/2018 19:52

No, it's just a silly word to me, not a nice name.

TatianaLarina · 26/10/2018 19:54

Very American.

Also Clay with a London accent sounds dreadful.

hutsing · 26/10/2018 19:58

@userofthiswebsite nope - I actually first heard it in One Tree Hill years ago!

Ontopofthesunset · 26/10/2018 20:02

But do you like what it means? When I hear Clay I just think of lumps of wet greyish clay. On the plus side, it is ready to be moulded into anything ("did I request thee, Maker, of my clay to make me man?"). But on the downside it's grey, heavy, wet, shapeless...

TrippingTheVelvet · 26/10/2018 20:03

As in dirt? You can't do that!

Littlebird88 · 26/10/2018 20:03

personally really don't like it but choosing names is a v personal thing

makes me think ; mud; bricks sand. similar words

Goingonandonandon · 26/10/2018 20:04

no sorry. I know it's American but it's not a nice name. It's clay. Chay maybe? or Troy?

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 26/10/2018 20:09

My dsil named her ds a very American sounding name and no one else really likes it. I think it sounds strange in our local accent plus she has no American connection. Her and bil just liked the name, everyone else thinks it's weird.

Go with a name you love by all means but if you'll find it annoying when others ask you why you named your ds that name, then steer clear.

Grandadwasthatyou · 26/10/2018 20:11

One of Wayne Rooney's sons is a Klay with a K.

BroomOnTheRoom · 26/10/2018 20:13

Awful.

TheMonkeyMummy · 26/10/2018 20:32

As long as it's first sibling is called Mud

GlassOuijan · 26/10/2018 20:36

It's short for Clayton, surely?

At least I knew a Clay (American) who was a Clayton.

TatianaLarina · 26/10/2018 20:37

One of Wayne Rooney's sons is a Klay with a K.

Of course it is.

To go with Kai and Kayden or whatever.

Woohoo1 · 26/10/2018 20:38

I love Clayton ❤️

Sippingtea · 26/10/2018 20:47

Oh, come on.

Shadow1234 · 26/10/2018 21:16

I really like Clayton, with nn Clay.

Sungura · 27/10/2018 07:17

Yes, I do like Clay. I guess I'm the odd one here. I appreciate the sound of it, which is the point.

FishCanFly · 31/10/2018 10:13

LIKE! Both Clay and Clayton.

Reminds me of Sons of Anarchy. Not a great connection for me.
