What do people think of this name? DH and I both really like it, but he's worried about the echoes of Harvey Weinstein whereas I hadn't even made the connection. Do you think it's ok to use?

I immediately thought Weinstein then Nichols - not great a pervert and a shop. Good name for a randy terrier not a child.

Thetimehascometo · 25/10/2018 23:56

There’s a lot of Harvey’s coming through into year 7 at the moment, quite popular and as you have suggested with recent events possibly a name I would avoid

twolalala · 26/10/2018 00:03

I'd possibly avoid it because of the connotations but I don't think it's the worst connotation as not a lot of people would immediately associate it, it's not a rare name.

PippilottaLongstocking · 26/10/2018 00:05

I know a wonderful Harvey. I can’t imagine a baby called Harvey though, but they’d grow into it!

BaggaT · 26/10/2018 00:14

Loved the name...for my cat in the 90s.
For a child born now, not so much. The association with Weinstein is not great either. I’d probably go for Hector or Emerson if I was after an American-esque name.

Rogueone · 26/10/2018 00:15

I know a Harvey and only one. I always take the mick after the old film with Harvey the giant 6ft 4 rabbit! Anyway I like the name

WobbleTime · 26/10/2018 00:20

I love it.

NarcolepticOuchMouse · 26/10/2018 00:23

I think of Harvey from Sabrina the Teenage Witch, not a bad thing really. To me though it is an American name.

anitagreen · 26/10/2018 00:28

Harvey is a 90s Mc name where I live . Horrible name think of So Solid Crew

DC2018 · 26/10/2018 00:37

I like Harvey and think of Harvey Spector from suits. Had to Google Weinstein! If you like it then go for it, I doubt anyone will make the association in the future. Plenty kids are still called Michael or James (although may not go by Jimmy)

moredoll · 26/10/2018 03:46

Not keen. I think I agree with your DH

LeeMiller · 26/10/2018 08:11

My first thought was Weinstein too

emwithme · 26/10/2018 08:15

I didn't think Weinstein.

I thought first of the rabbit, then Katie Price's eldest.

Stormwhale · 26/10/2018 08:17

Harvey is the name of a really unpleasant boy in dds class. He can be really nasty so it's a no from me.

kmreeve · 26/10/2018 08:18

I didn't think wienstien - I thought Katie price son.

I like the name - wee Harv.

userabcname · 26/10/2018 08:18

I think it's fine. It's actually a popular name in my area at the moment. I have never heard anyone make the Weinstein connection.

TheDowagerCuntess · 26/10/2018 09:15

I think it's a desperate name, sorry.

Weinstein didn't even come to mind - but actually, he personifies the name for me. A bumptious, bloated, beer-swilling, lecherous, middle-aged buffoon.

I don't know why it has such negative connotations for me. I don't think I've ever even met one.

But, yeah, it's a no from me.

SallyWD · 26/10/2018 09:25

I like the name and don't know any Harveys.

Rogueone · 26/10/2018 09:34

It was my OH i was referring to up thread who is called Harvey and he is not a beer swilling, lechorous buffoon. He is a very handsome, tall attractive male! But I probably would have said the same as you cuntness before I met him 😂

GraceMarks · 26/10/2018 09:46

The only famous one that I knew of before Weinstein was Harvey Smith, the showjumper. He was the nearest thing equestrianism had to a rough and ready character, i.e. he has a Yorkshire accent and once flicked a v sign at some judges during a competition. I would struggle to imagine a small child with the name for that reason, really, and Weinstein was the nail in the Harvey coffin for me!

TheDowagerCuntess · 26/10/2018 09:56

I'm so sorry @Rogueone - I'm sure your DH is lovely!

I envisage this guy, and as I say, I have no idea why!

Harvey
Rogueone · 26/10/2018 10:02

😂😂 Thedowagercuntess although prior to my OH i always thought of the lecherous dude in with nail and I!

TheDowagerCuntess · 26/10/2018 10:22

🤣 Aw, I've maybe got a bit of a soft spot for Harvey now!

Zapho · 27/10/2018 18:46

Thanks for all your thoughts! I reckon that's probably a 'no' on Harvey then although I still do like it! Maybe as a middle name...
