Cunning Plan

Right, so my mil has been happily announcing that she doesn't like our choice of names; Angus and Scarlett. I'm pretty frustrated by it as she regularly tells the story of how her mil didn't like her choice of name and she didn't use it and has always been disappointed by that. So my mum suggested we throw her off the scent with some awful decoy names that we say we will be using, to the point where our actual names seem like a blessing. I'm thinking something very posh sounding like Bartholomew or Sebastian as she would really hate those. She thinks I'm posh so would probably believe them. Then, after using these for the entire pregnancy, a wee Angus or Scarlet would seem welcome! Any other suggestions for decoy names?...

Mungo!!

I actually love it, but it's too pretentious and my other half would have an absolute fit 😂

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 25/10/2018 17:17

Otto and Fanny.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 25/10/2018 17:18

DC2018 · 25/10/2018 17:19

Persephone... I think it's a bit awful name! It makes me cringe when it's suggested on here.

They believed him!

Decoys were always my mums choice of persuasion. I use this at work when I want to get a project through.

We can have a) dancing elephants from the zoo to open the AGM (they are a bit messy though), b) ask everyone up on stage to sing the new company song that I've just penned, or c) get the CEO to suit up and say a few words...

I did this with my mum to stop the constant barrage of well meaning suggestions with DC3 (she had already tried to interfere with naming my first two and also objected on the grounds that I chose 'posh' names)

Her overriding criteria was that they had to be saints names or religious names. I told her that our choices were either Elvis or Tiffany (apologies to anyone called either of those names). I could show her the entry for St. Elvis on the saints database and Tiffany is an old name meaning born at the Epiphany.

DS has a perfectly normal top 10 name and she was much relieved.

Lucifer for a boy and Bertha for a girl.

Or just go with Romeo and Harper - tell her you like the Beckham influence! (Unless, of course, she would see that as a good thing!)

I am REALLY disappointed that this thread isn’t about the excellent name Baldrick.

MushroomMushroom · 25/10/2018 18:44

@Peachbubble St John is an excellent suggestion! Especially if she would struggle with the pronunciation OP?

TheWoollybacksWife · 25/10/2018 18:49

Oh yes @ThanksItHasPockets Baldrick for a boy and Bob for a girl.
