Middle names Betty & Maud, help needed on first name

Hildegard36 · 21/10/2018 21:37

We want to use Betty and Maud as middle names, after mine and dh’s grandmothers. Our surname is pretty common two syllables - let’s say Oakland (it’s pretty similar to that)

Any opinions on which of these first names flows best?

Madeleine Betty Maud Oakland
Caroline Betty Maud Oakland
Florence Betty Maud Oakland
Eleanor Betty Maud Oakland
Jennifer Betty Maud Oakland
Jemima Betty Maud Oakland

That’s tough, they all flow nicely!

If anything I’d say Jemima Oakland and Eleanor Oakland flow least well, but still nice.

I think My favourite is Florence Betty Maud Oakland

Madeleine and Jemima

TBH I would just go with Betty Maud. Very nice, lovely cool name.

I agree with notangeleinajolie. Sounds great together! If you're set on using one of the names above, Florence sounds best to me. Fewer syllables.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 22/10/2018 06:24

Madeleine

I think Eleanor Maud Betty Oakland would be nice, i.e. with the middle names swapped round.

Florence Betty Maud Oakland

I’d call her Elizabeth Maud Oakland nickname Beth

Creepyexgirlfriend · 22/10/2018 16:16

Jemima

WildCherryBlossom · 22/10/2018 22:14

Definitely Jemima Betty Maud! I love it!

finallychangedmyusername · 22/10/2018 22:24

Madeleine or Jemima are my favourites. Jennifer and Caroline are a little more unexpected nowadays. All are fab names though.

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 22/10/2018 22:28

I would just choose the first name you like the best rather than obsessing about how it flows with your chosen middle names

How the first name and surname flow is more important as in reality it will be very rare that your DD will be addressed as Firstname Betty Maud Surname

WildCherryBlossom · 23/10/2018 07:47

Oh I don't know shaggedthru sometimes middle names do get picked up on. One of my DCs teachers found out their middle name and used it unfailingly.

Happily my children all love their middle names. They usually use them as their alter ego names (eg as superheroes or whatever) when they are playing and occasionally introduce themselves to new people using all their names.

If I had a Jemima Betty Maud I would probably call her that rather a lot 😀

EvieV28 · 23/10/2018 10:24

Florence.

TatianaLarina · 23/10/2018 10:30

Don’t like any of your first names. Like Maud though.

Maud Oakland is cool.

TubeTop · 23/10/2018 10:32

All lovely. If I was to help narrow it down I could possibly get rid of 2- Florence is a bit too popular at the moment and Jemima is a touch pretentious although Jemma for short is nice.

TatianaLarina · 23/10/2018 11:15

Jemima is not pretentious ffs. I don’t like it but it’s not pretentious.

Any name on here outside a poster’s very narrow frame of reference or a perceived to be posh is labelled pretentious.

Sophronia · 24/10/2018 11:49

Caroline, Jennifer or Jemima

I though the point of these threads was to give opinions!
