A sibling for Rowan

Naschkatze · 20/10/2018 21:19

Baby number 2 due in December.

We've got a decent shortlist for girls including:
Evelyn (too popular?)
Seren (too similar sounding to Rowan?)
Amelie
Alexis nn Lexie (I'm not 100% on this one...)

For boys we are really struggling to find things we both like again. I like names such as: Noah, Jonah.
DH hates the "uh" sound at the end of names. He really likes Callen/Celyn at the moment but I think they are too similar to Rowan. We have very few names on our maybe list for boys!

What should Rowan's little brother or sister be called?!

(Apologies if all formatting gets lost on this - newly converted to Android and it seems to do funny things on the app!)

We had Rowan on our shortlist for baby no 3 (for a boy). We ended up with a girl but looking at your list you already have girls names sorted. We have a Robin (DS) - so you may like that.

Shadow1234 · 21/10/2018 00:13

I really love your girls names (with the exception of Alexis)
Seren would be my number one pick!

Really like Callan for a boy. (Nothing wrong with Jonah or Noah, but I prefer your DH choice)

I know a couple of little ones called Celyn and I quite like it (it may be more popular here than most places because one of the local towns is called Trecelyn in Welsh); I think of it as a girls’ name, although I know both boys and girls called this. I Think seren goes fine with Rowan.

Thank

AlliKaneErikson · 21/10/2018 01:06
  • I have no idea where that random ‘thank’ came from?!
Sungura · 21/10/2018 06:23

Amelie is really pretty, my choice for a daughter. Callan and Jonah are nice, too. I don't like Celyn for a boy. I think I favor Callan but not sure about it with Rowan.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I also really like Robin but we don't want to go for another R and it's already used in the family.

Agree about Alexis, I like the name but not sure I can imagine naming a baby it! Confused

I do like Callen, just not sure about it with Rowan.

@shadow1234 I love lots of your suggestions, particularly Jude, Elias, Ezra, Luca. Unfortunately most have been vetoed by DH!
Also like Torran and Tarran but similar reservations about them sounding so similar to Rowan.

Didn't know Celyn could be a girls name, although admittedly we only added it to the list the other day. It's lovely. I think I prefer it to Callan with Rowan.

@sungara I like Charles from your list (so much we named our cat this before the baby days!!) Also like Elliot, Isaac and Caleb but DH doesn't.
Likewise with Finley, Jonas and Felix!

Not sure where the gin came from in my previous message!!

We also liked Christopher (Kit), Inigo and Isaac. DH liked Henrik and Brian. We have a Joseph but that doesn't have the same vibe as the names you've suggested.

Naschkatze · 21/10/2018 10:46

I like Quinn and Torin Icklepup. Not entirely sure how it would be pronounced though. T-or-in (like oar)?

I have Isaac on my list too, DH not keen.

RavenWings · 21/10/2018 10:48

If Evelyn is possibly too popular then Amelie definitely is. It blends into the hordes of Amelias.
Really like Alexis and Seren.

Christian
Anthony
Lachlan
Emmet

gilmoregal · 21/10/2018 12:24

Love your name choices, I know one of each of the girls including one is my name though so biased!

I think Seren and Rowan are a bit too matchy

Lexie or Alexa are better than Alexis which I'm not keen on. Or go for Alexandra nn Lexie

Amelie is very pretty and one of my favourite girls names.

Boys names I love Noah likewise my dh didn't like it.

Ideas (these were our boys name list)

Ezra
Elliot
Jude
Theodore
Teddy
Arlo
Luca

rainbowstardrops · 21/10/2018 12:34

Seren and Callen are lovely!!!!!

EvieV28 · 21/10/2018 13:00

How do you pronounce Callen? I've only seen Caelan before. Which I think does go nicely with Rowan.
Evelyn is lovely for a girls name and not too popular at all.

Linked0ut · 21/10/2018 13:02

Jago

MrsEricBana · 21/10/2018 13:09

Of all those boys names above Rowan & Jude leapt out at me for some reason.
I love Evelyn but you will then get the whole Ev-e-lin / Evlin / Eve-lin pronunciation thing tgat is oft debated on here. I often wonder why Sylvie is never used now and it is similar.

Naschkatze · 21/10/2018 13:21

That's interesting Raven. It seems, Evelyn is super popular round here but I've never met at Amelie and only 1 or 2 Amelias.
Really like Lachlan and Emmett. DH vetoed Lachlan and not sure about Emmett.

I like the idea of Alexandra Gilmore. There's an Alexander in the family which is why we weren't using that one. Going to run Arlo past DH!

@rainbowstardrops I think so too! But would you put them with Rowan?

OP posts:
ToastyFingers · 21/10/2018 13:31

Both my daughters names are on your list!

Depending on where you live, Seren is very popular.

gilmoregal · 21/10/2018 13:41

Emmett is really lovely too.

Arlo was one of our top choices our son was very nearly Arlo we also struggled with husband vetoing everything I liked!

Naschkatze · 21/10/2018 19:39

You have very good taste ToastyWink

Annoying isn't it Gilmoregal! Apart from Callen, he hasn't offered any suggestions of his own either!

OP posts:
Daphnedolittle · 21/10/2018 21:03

I love your name choices.
Alexis stands out as it's less on trend. It's cool and strong, I would shorten to Alexi.
Amelie - beautiful but very trendy (it's on my list but I'm concerned about popularity with all the Amelias and Emilys too)
Evelyn - nice but a bit overdone with all the Evies, Eves etc. I like Everly
Seren - don't have strong feelings

I also have a DS with an R name similar to Rowan and these are on my list and think go with Rowan
Hazel
Coralie (lovely nn's Cora and Coral)
Esme
Posie
Skye
Willow

Boys I struggle with too and have
Otis
Arran
Finley
Zachary
Aiden
Owen

Good luck!

RavenWings · 21/10/2018 21:33

Oh these things definitely depend a bit on regional popularity OP, but overall I'd say Amelia/Amelie are very 'now' names and definitely to avoid if popularity isn't something you want.

When I opened your thread Carina came to mind btw, so will suggest it in case you like it.
Boys names: Wyatt, Spencer, Micah, Malachi, Tobias, Fintan, Patrick, Logan, Lorcan, Tristan, Rhys, Levi, Austin, Joel, Emrys, Reyad, Judd.

rainbowstardrops · 22/10/2018 07:19

@Naschkatze yes I'd definitely say your names would be fine with Rowan.
Lovely names!
