How do these names sound together?

We have a DS called Eli. Expecting DC2 in May. DH is obsessed with the name Isla for if it's a girl. I think it's a beautiful name but it was number 3 in Scotland last year which puts me off a little.

Other than that though, Eli and Isla? Sounds a bit samey, no?

Too much the same.
Imagine yourself calling one of them in from the bottom of the garden in a few years time. Would they know which child you were calling? I think not.

Too samey, sorry!

Eleanor90 · 20/10/2018 00:02

Too samey. How about Ida?

DramaAlpaca · 20/10/2018 00:09

Unless I'm pronouncing one of them completely wrongly (I'm not!) I don't think they sound too samey. It's just that Eli ends with the sound Isla starts with IYSWIM. If you say them together the other way round, Isla & Eli, they sound quite different to me.

I'm glad you all agree!

Yeah too samey. I like Eli, but Isla is a bit boring and too popular at the moment.

I agree very much with DramaAlpaca. They sound fine together. But you and your husband need to agree on a name. That's what it comes down to.

With DS the naming thing wasn't fun. He's one of those DPs who says no to 99% of names but doesn't suggest anything himself. Eli was the only one we both vaguely agreed on, with him loving it and me not minding it. By the point it was suggested by me I was happy to go with anything he agreed on. This time round I've told him that's not happening again. I don't know why I listen to him say "nah I don't like it" but have a hard time saying it back to names he loves. I'm not actually a pushover normally.

I think they sound nice together and not too samey. But then I have a Beth(any) and a Nath(an)

nocluenoidea · 21/10/2018 11:22

What about Eli and Lila? Rhymes with Isla but not quite as samey

daisypond · 21/10/2018 11:31

I think they're too similar in sound, though not in theme/type. Also they're hard to say together.
